'06 Mustang GT Running Lean

Post by MarkDaBoys »

I am fairly new to using a tuner and I am having a slight problem with my car running lean. I had the setting right and had not had a problem for a few months, until most gas stations started putting up to 10% eth. in the gas. I was told to simply put in an Oct. boost when I fuel, and the first time it worked, but only that one time.

I have to drive the car, and I HATE running lean, due to the damage it does.

I am running the 91 tune. I have a MMR cold air intake, Bassani Cats and X-pipes.

Any suggestion would be great!!!

If you need more info, let me know what you need...

Fuel Bank 1 - Lean
Fuel Bank 2 - Lean

The actual code I will have to look up, but that is it. I believe it is P0171 for Bank 1, but don't hold me to it, I just erased the codes to try something and if what I did didn't work, then the check engine light will come back within a mile or two, or after the second start after I drive somewhere.

I had this problem awhile ago when I first installed the cold air intake, but after adjusting the fuel table, the error never returned, until the 10% of eth. was put into the gas. I avoided all the stations that put it in the gas, but now almost all of them now have it.

Could it just be that there is not enough octane or are the people telling me that wrong???

Don't take it as I don't know anything about cars, I grew up in an auto shop, I just never really got into tuning them, this is the first one I am going at alone. You can give me ideas or whatever, just when it comes to things that might hurt the car, I don't want to guess at it, I want to get it right as soon as possible. I know running the car lean is hurting it.

I THINK I WOULD TRY PUTTING THE FUEL TABLES BACK TO 0 AS THE DIABLO TUNE HAS THEM. THEN GO GET YOU SOME B-12 SPRAY AND TAKE THE MASS AIR METER OUT OF YOUR CAI AND SPRAY IT REAL GOOD WITH THE B-12. REINSTALL. CLEAR CODES AND DRIVE. THEN GO DRIVE IT AND LOOK AT YOUR 02 VOLTAGE AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. 02#1 AND 02#2 SHOULD READ 88 TO 91 VOLTS.

never heard of using B-12 spray, like the vitamin??? I understand why you would be able to use it, but I just want to clarify before I give my car a vitamin boost.

After you clarify that, I will reset the tune and do what you said and go for a drive to see what happens...

Its the CAI, you need to run a CAI tune or a custom tune to avoid this lean condition.
Try the Airaid, as it may be close to the MMR intake, otherwise a custom tune is required, or a different supported intake.

Is the tune something I can simply download and install, or is that one that I have to purchase???

Well, the MMR intake is not one that we have tunes for, so either try one of the CAI tunes already in the tool and see how they run, or you will need either a custom tune for that intake or use a different intake that is supported.

MIKE YOU AND DIABLO REALLY DO A GOOD JOB. I KNOW THAT I REALLY APPRECIATE THE EFFORT YOU GUYS SHOW ON THIS BOARD. DO YOU THINK DIABLO COULD MAKE ME A TUNE TO RUN ANY BETTER THAN THE TUNE I HAVE COME UP WITH. IT'S ALL ABOUT E.T. FOR ME. I RUN EXTREMELY WELL WITH MY MUSTANG. BUT I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR BETTER.
