2020 Ram 1500 eTorque - Unlocked PCM / Warranty

Post by reddskinnfan »

I purchased a 2020 RAM 1500 eTorque and after reading some public reviews/comments on the DiabloSport page about dealers not being able to tell that you are using an unlocked PCM (unless they have the unlocked one in the car during evaluation), I purchased the whole kit and kaboodle.
However, I I just received my unlocked PCM (not a swap) and a BIG WARNING sheet of paper... Dealers can see an ERROR or CODE stating that you have tampered with the PCM.

Is the unlocked PCM undetectable as long as the stock PCM is put back into the vehicle prior to any warranty service? Is there a way that a dealer/manufacturer can determine/prove that an unlocked PCM was installed at some point in time?

If they can, I'll be returning my Diable InTune3 and unlocked PCM. If not, I'll move forward with tuning and getting my gains!

its a carry over from years ago when the unlocked pcms would cause a P1400 on some vehicles, hasn't been an issue for some time now and was never an issue on Rams fortunately.

So does that mean that as long as I swap back in the Original PCM, they can't ever tell we had an Unlocked PCM in there?

Okay, grabbed info from PCM via tuner before installing unlocked version. Started tuner and applied 91 octane tune and perf tcm tune. Tunes installed but upon power cycling the vehicle I have CEL. Use the scan tool component of tuner and see 8 warnings. 4/each for PCM communication and TCM communication issues. If I clear them, I don't see them again right away. Install a tune or modify the tune (like throttle boost) and they come back again.

Normal?

Also, I feel no change in performance, at all. No additional power during acceleration or during cruising... I expected at least a difference I could feel with the expected 30-ish increase in HP and torque.

One last thing, do I need the Security bypass installed after the unlocked PCM is installed?

id need the specific codes to say for sure, bu tif they clear and dont come back on their own it should be fine.

As for lack of performance, well, thats not something we hear.
Should notice increased throttle response just backing out of the driveway, improved shifting performance at wot/heavy throttle and more willingness to blow the tires off, etc.

Yeah, I installed the 91 tune and the TCM perf mod. Not really noticing anything beyond what was there before. I have an S&B intake and Borla Catback installed.

I am going to try to just install the 91 tune and leave off the TCM tune to see if the TCM time is messing with the shifting and messing with my mind (and performance).

Also, you never answered my question about the Security Bypass module and whether it needs to stay in the vehicle after the unlocked PCM has been installed.

sorry...you can remove it once the tune is loaded, and it should always be removed before going to the dealer.
Only needs to be there when you are changing tunes.

Thanks

Drive with the tune for a few days, then put it back to stock and drive it.
Lot of times people immediately notice the difference going that way.
