More rear O2 Sensor problems...

Me again. I'm sure loving this car with the tuner! I have Bassani X-pipe with Cats and Cat-back. Had a couple of exhaust leaks at the seams, so had a shop spot weld them up to remove the leaks. Seems every time I go for a "joy ride" I trip the damn Service Engine Soon light. Trouble code of P0153 - O2 Circuit Slow Response (Bank 2, Sensor 1). I turned it off with the tuner, but it keeps coming back. Gettin' tired of it.

So I checked the Predator manual and I'm thinking to turn off the rear sensors to elminate this nuisance. But there are 3 settings I'd like some advice with. Heater bank 1 downstream, Heater bank 2 downstream, and O2 Config. Do I turn off both downstream banks AND O2 Config? OR do I just turn off O2 Config?

And, is this a cool approach, or do you think I have a bigger problem and need to have the O2 sensors themselves replaced? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

The P0153 code is for a front 02 sensor and can not be eliminated using the Predator. It sounds as though your heater circuit in that sensor has gone bad. I would try replacing that sensor.

Yeah, in the future, if you will be having welding done onthe car, its a good idea to remove the O2 sensors from the exhaust, and disconnect the battery.

Ok, sounds good. Quick question though... since I will turn off the rear sensors and they appear to be working, can I simply swap the rears to the front and front to the rear and then turn off the rears, or are they different parts?

Nope, sorry, they are different sensors.

Ok, off to get a new sensor. Minor question. P0153 says 02 Circuit Slow Response (Bank 2, Sensor 1). Any idea if that is the front sensor on the driver side or the passenger side? Thanks.

Bank 2 sensor 1 is going to be the first sensor on your drivers side bank.

Ok, I replaced both front sensors. Worked great for a few weeks, although I didn't drive it much. This week took a 180 mile trip and it did fine. Went to come home this morning, started the car, and the same code is now appearing again! Yuck. I have not gone under the car to check for melted wires yet, but guess this is not the problem or it would have done it already. So what else could be tripping this code? A buddy of mine more knowledgeable thinks there is something wrong with the tune that I put in it. Tomorrow I'll try putting the stock tune back in it. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

If the codes are relating to the front O2 sensor, it is certainly not tune related, but rather an issue in the car with the sensors.

Just an update for those who are interested. Do NOT use Bosch O2 sensors, at least on a 2003 Cobra. As soon as I replaced the front one with Ford OEM, problem went away and haven't seen the error in a couple of months. Ford OEM are over twice as expensive, but they work and no error code!
