Question: i3 Intune 8200 (50 State Legal) and New SMOG Law in Ca. as of 7/19/2021-Passed?

Post by madmatt9471 »

As we all know that on July 19th, 2021 California passed a new SMOG Law that no ECU tunes can be modified -

Now I know that DiabloSport i3 8200 (50 State Legal), Trinity 2 (T2 EX - 50 State Legal), A&A Superchargers, Edelbrock Superchargers all have CARB EO# and in the PDF Document it states that they can modify the ECU - However from what I know these are the the ones that have failed due to due to what California calls "Modified Software" on the SMOG test:

(1) A&A Superchargers (has an EO#)
(2) Edelbrock Superchargers (has an EO#)

(?) ????DiabloSport (50 State Legal i3 8200 or Trinity 2)???????

Has anyone tried to pass the California SMOG, and done so, since 7/19/2021 with either the DiabloSport i3 8200 (50 State Legal) or the Trinity 2 (T2 EX - 50 State Legal) canned handheld tuners?

I realize that we can simply reinstall the factory "Stock" tune and go and pass, however, I would like to know if you have tried to pass with the DiabloSport 50 State Legal Tune, did it "Pass" the SMOG test or did it Fail the SMOG test saying "Modified Software"?

If you did fail then no doubt you reinstalled your "Stock" factory tune and passed with no issues (which you should pass with no issues, since it will reinstall the factory CVN numbers back in the ECU)

This will be extremely helpful come SMOG time, if you can share please do so - (by the way I have the Intune i3 8200 and HP Tuners)

Thanks,Matt

All of our 50 state legal devices (like 8200, 9200, etc) are covered for specific applications under CARB EO D-770

They will pass when installed as long as the rest of the vehicle is good to go.

I might have to try and test it (my new i3 8200) with my SMOG man to see "IF" California is honoring it or not, especially since they have yet to honor other CARB EO#'s issued

You guys, Diablosport, have gone through a lot to give us a SMOG Legal device that CA is supposed to continue to honor, however since 7/19/2021 it has been quite a different story for us here in California since the new CARB Law went into effect -

The test reads "Modified Software" and you fail and then you have to go to a referee with the documentation and they comb over your Vehicle etc. and them pass you or of course we can simply reinstall the "Factory Stock Tune" - it just would be nice to be left alone and they should have, like they state, the CARB EO D-770 in their database and all should be good - but it hasn't been the case for so many others thus far! Ughhhh!

I will say a great thanks to Diablosport for the tuners and all their effort - was just hoping that someone was able to try it and see if it passed or not -

Thanks,Matt

If the tune we provided that they approved does not pass, PLEASE, let me know immediately.

I will Mike - it may not be right away but I will, I promise. It's another $60.00 that I have to spend to test it out to see if it would "Pass" or "Not", additionally I will have to make some time to do it too -

Just to keep this up to date - I have not been able to get the test done on the i3 Intune 8200 yet.

It is always on my mind and I am working towards getting it taken care of when I can clear out my schedule.

Thanks,Matt

Just to keep this up to date - I still have not been able to get the test done on the i3 Intune 8200 yet, I have been incredibly busy.

It is constantly on my mind and I am working towards getting getting this test done for my knowledge and for others just as soon as I can buy out some more time.

However, I heard that A&A Superchargers was able to get all of their CARB E.O # Issues cleared up, I believe they were issued a new number for all their kits for 1997 - 2019 and they are smooth sailing again - so this is good news, hopefully California will honor our Diablosport Handheld Tuners too!

Thanks,Matt

Here in Cali as well. Is the EO for the tune include it to be used to pass the SMOG with the AFM deleted? I want to delete the actual parts and replace with non AFM and use this tuner to run my 5.3 and be able pass SMOG when they plug in.

Yes, that wont be a problem as long as you are using a 50 state legal delete kit.
