What Tune for Ford Racing Intake?

Post by Powerslave »

I have a 2008 Mustang V6, and purchased the Ford Racing Intake - M-9603-M40.

Will also be installing the BBK 70mm throttle body.

With just the intake installed:

I had their 91 Performance tune installed, but it would not idle right. It would warble
from 400-800 for a but, then rev to 1200, then slowly come back down to normal idle.
First time, I gassed it, and got nothing. Restarted the car, same idle issue, but was
able to rev the motor. Then the idle issue would start all over again any time I
revved it.

While the idle was stable, turned the A/C on, RPMs dropped to 200, then it
stalled.

What tune or parameters works with that intake?

Both items BRAND NEW, and I only paid $250, shipped...

It also will not allow me to choose any other intake except the K&N FIPK.
The other tuners, Predator, and I1000, had five different options to choose from.

I recorded a log, from start, idling, high idle (to 2000) to dropping, then stalling.

The intake is FORD'S product. If factory installed, they calibrate the ECU for it
then. You can buy just the intake, or buy the kit with the BAMA tuner for the
calibration. This kit only has the intake, no tuner.

Do other people's tunes work with your tuner?

You said, in another thread that; "the ford racing is the same as the Steeda intake..."

Why does the I1000 have five intake options, but this new I3 does not? I need to
be able to try the other intake options to see if I can get one to work. How do
I get this I3 to access the same options the I1000 had? You know the tuner,
and should know what CAI intakes it supports. It can't just support the K&N FIPK.
How did it know which one I had used before, when this is a different tuner?

This I3 doesn't even allow you to change fuel trims, spark timing, NOTHING, but the
I1000 did. Why does an old tuner allow it, but not this new one?

Can I get a REFUND and you take the license back? I only got it because I
thought it had the same options as the I1000, and it clearly doesn't. I will
find and buy another used Predator or I1000 for this car, they both had more
choices than this...

I do not know what version it is, it is at least 5+ years old.
It was one of the tuners we used at the shop for a customer's
vehicle. It has been lying around, so I added the license to
replace the I1000 with the bad touch screen.

The only LICENSE option was "ADD I3 LICENSE FORD 50-STATE"

The serial# is 201154928
Just took ANOTHER update.

It just doesn't allow hardly half the the options that the I1000 or older Predator
model did, and is worthless to me. I could have just kept the I1000 tune in, and
not wasted $150 on a tuner that does LESS than the one I had. I can't change
anything with the I1000 due to the bad screen, but this I3 doesn't allow me
to change any of the options the older ones did, so it is worthless to me.

Why does it only have ONE CAI option, the K&N FIPK?

So, like I asked, can I put the car back to stock, you can take the
license back, and I get a refund. I can't do anything with this
tuner, except tune. I have to be able to try the different intake
options the other tuners had to try and get that ford racing intake
to work without installing a MAF insert. Even without this I3,
I Can tune the car with the I1000 the way it was.

I am temporarily using a MAF INSERT. I bought an intake for my Camaro a while
ago, and it has a plastic sleeve where the MAF is. I know what it's for, so I
put it in this FORD INTAKE, and the car is running. My idea, since I happened to
have an insert.

I was getting Lean codes, and fuel trims that were too high with this one, but it ran. The long term fuel trim
was always at 25%, and all the short term values were still in the high teens, on the positive side. Even idling,
the trims were high. However, the car never stalled like it did without the insert.

Idling HOT with this insert:

You can see the fuel trims are high, even idling.

I installed another insert that I made on 8/30/22:

Fuel trims were in the negatives when idling here, and the long term values never to to 25%.

Idling hot with the new insert:

Fuel trims are well within specifications. No check engine light, and no lean codes.

Diablosport has since got me a tune that they said will work with this Intake.
I will post another update once the TUNE from Dioablosport is written, and the insert is removed.

So what was the point in asking what I3 tuner I was using if
you decided to stop replying?
