Attempt to update my Predator with latest software revision

Post by lloydhe3 »

I have a 2000 Ford Lightning and have been using the Predator for a couple years. I recently checked the Diablosport website for updates and noticed there was a new revision. I downloaded the appropriate files and programs and followed the instructions. All seemed to go well, after writing the packets, I received the message that the update was complete. But, the Predator never rebooted. I waited maybe 5-10 minutes thinking that maybe I wasn't waiting long enough. I don't know what to do now. Upon powering the Predator now, it goes through the "Booting Lightning" through 100% and then displays a completely blank screen.

What do I do to remedy the problem? Thanks, Hal

The sticker on the back of the Predator reads "Lightning".
The revision I was attempting to update was the latest version 9R01

Try redownloading the file from a land line and reapply it...

Thanks

I used a land line when I downloaded it the first time. I don't have a wireless interenet connection. Any other ideas? Thanks

I attempted to reapply the revision to the tool twice, with the same outcome. I'll try to download the file again and attempt to reapply it again. Not sure what's next if that doesn't work.

Yes, each time it loads the crom, it boots up blank. I've had the tool for about 3 years now.

Ok, so now I have redownloaded the latest revision and saved to desk top. I also have the latest Diablosport Downloader 1.9.9.6 on my desktop as well. The tool is connected with a 9 pin to USB connection wire to my computer and is powered by the recommended Radio Shack power supply. I have opened the Downloader and set the BAUD rate to 115200 and the appropriate Comm Port is selected. I selected the Express Tune Mode tab and clicked on the Send CROM file to Predator button. The Firmware File to Download window appears and I click the new revision file once to highlight it. Then click the Open button. I am prompted to power cycle the tool and do so. I prompted that the tool is ready and asked if I would like to continue with the download. I click yes and the Download tool begins writing the packets (6524 packets) of the u7158_lightning-9r01.crom file. Once it finishes loading the packets it prompts me that the programmer download was successful. All the while there has been an hour glass image on the screen of the Predator tool. I click OK and the hour glass symbol remains on the Predator tool screen indefinitely. According to the instructions that I downloaded off the Diablosport website to complete this update, I believe the tool is supposed to reboot at this point. It does not seem to be rebooting. Only the hourglass symbol is continuously displayed. Any thoughts?

Ok, here is some new info to consider as well. I attempted to load the previous version back on to the tool just to see if the tool would accept any CROM file. It worked. After applying the 8r10 version, the tool rebooted and seems to function normally. Still scratching my head why the new version is not applying correctly.

I downloaded the file in the post. It isn't a .crom file, but a .php document file. Is this right? Thanks, Hal

Putting my 2 cents in, I just downloaded file and it is a crom file. When you download do you right click and (save target as)? If not that's the proper way....if you did do that then I can't help! Hope this helps,

Yes, I right click and save target as. The Save As window will only save the file as a .php file. I am not sure what I'm doing different.
