ESP Confusion...

I had my 2006 Magnum dyno tuned with a custom CMR and the guy told me he turned the ESP "off" with the Predator. He thought that the ESP and ABS lights were supposed to stay on all the time. When he restarted the car, no lights. The ESP light will turn on with the button. Is this normal? Now for the dumb question. Do I want the button pushed, pushed and held or not pushed at all for the best tire spin? Sometimes I want it like a good old locker, full positraction. Can someone please help?
Thanks,
Mark

Turning off ESP through the Predator only disables it until you shut the car off....

So which mode does the best tire spin, ESP button pushed in, button held in or not pushed at all?
Sorry, I am a bit confused.

Stock ESP on has the most control. Predator tunes turn down the torque management and therefore ESP. If you have an R/T or SXT pressing the ESP button turns it down even more but it's not off. If you have an SRT-8 holding down the ESP button until you hear a ding turns it down even more. Finally using the Predator to turn off ESP (Dyno Mode) is the most you can do. Keep in mind that some have had trouble with Dyno Mode because it won't shift past 3rd gear.

So, with an SRT-8, I should hold down the button until the ding for the most wheel spin (other than using the Predator). From what I have read, pushing the button quick turns off traction control without loosing some of the other ESP features. Holding until the ding must turn the other stuff off, right?

LX SRT8s also have the "Performance mode". Run the car at 15mph or more, and turn and hold the key. You'll get the ding and get full ESP and TCS off while retaining ABS. It also increases the throttle response.

Mike, is this performance mode for all years? And is it a different level than holding the dash button for 5 secs? The dash mode does not fully disengage ESP. Something is left activated, I forget what (someone said it was related to wheel speed differential corrections) I installed the GSM switch long ago and that truly releases all computer control with ESP and TCS. I'm wondering if the perfomance mode does as well.

all 2006 300c's have that mode just go 10 miles an hour turn key like your
restarting your vechile while its running aviously it doesnot engage the starter or hurt it if your playing your sterio your sterio will turn of and ding and you have full out of control vechile to do crazy burnouts if that make sense lol

Yeah, all 06-08 LX V8s have it. Not sure about the 05's or V6s.

So what is the difference between turning the key and pushing the ESP until in dings? When you push the ESP button until it dings you get the "ESP Functions Disabled". Are all SRT-8's the same?
Still confused,

Holding the button doesn't fully disable ESP. Theres still a safety net. The key kills it totally.
HOWEVER, and nobody has mentioned this yet, even with EVERYTHING disabled, the rear brakes will still intervene during a burnout. The electronic "limited slip" is trying to get the wheels spinning at the same speed, so the rear brakes will selectively brake the wheel thats spinning faster.

Thanks, I'll try that. I still haven't checked the manual. Forums are more fun and informative.

I don't think any of the above is correct. Mike, I don't know anything about the Jeeps.
This was from a SRT Engineer chat session a long time ago ('06 SRT8s).
Single Button Press
- disables straight line traction control. You should be able to spin the rear tires with no intervention. Often people are fooled here in that, with auto upshift, you spin the tires, the car shifts into second, grabs and your burnout is over. Also people thought they were getting short shifted since the analog tach lags and it doesn't look like you're getting to the shift point when you actually are.
- relaxes lateral intervention. Both the intervention point and the amount of intervention.
- ABS is enabled.
Press and Hold Button
- Straight line traction control is disabled.
- Lateral traction control is disabled.
- ABS is enabled.
With the SRT8's, the difficulty in doing long burnouts is mainly the upshift. You can either modulate the throttle (takes some skill with our throttle response) or disable auto-upshift. Don't make me go hunt for vids (couple of years ago) of Magnums doing a burnout for a couple of revs around the cul-de-sac and then off down the street.
You may not get "full locker" behavior since we do not have a limited slip differential. With full traction control (ESP) on, the PCM will limit wheel spin by first selectively appling brakes and then cutting throttle if necessary. When turning off the straight line traction control it is possible you will end up with a one legged burnout.

Thats on the LXs, not the Jeeps. Don't matter what the SRT "Techs" say. I'm speaking from experience. The Jeeps have no way to turn everything off with the button and the key trick doesn't work.
