2004 Mustang V6 part throttle knock

Post by solodogg »

I am getting a lot of knock with the DS 93 performance tune installed on the car at part throttle. I have tried setting the timing to 3 degrees retard across the board, and that seems to make no difference at all. The car is 100% stock other than the tuner.

Anyone have any ideas of how to remedy this? It doesn't knock at all with the 87 performance tune with 4 degrees of timing added, but just doesn't pull the same.

Might sound like a stupid question but it needs to be asked............are you running 93 octane with that tune? If not, then you need to be, and what modifications are done to the car? I see you say stock, but sometimes peoples interpetation of stock is different from others.

Yeah, running Shell & BP 93 octane. Even threw in a bottle of Prestone octane boost/fuel injector cleaner just to help out a bit. And by stock...i mean bone ass stock down to the paper air filter. Like I said above, it runs fine with the 87 performance tune and 4 degrees of timing added with 93 octane, but just doesn't have the same feeling.

When was the last time you had the fuel filter changed?

What is the current revision that is on your predator? It's located at the top of the main screen.

and Shell is one of the WORST brands to use... causes a lot of knock retard... don't use Shell brand...

use mobil, exxon, sunoco, amoco or BP...

just updated to the latest one...9R07b. Don't believe it's a fuel filter issue, since the car runs fine on the 87 performance tune with 4 degrees of timing added to it, and this is only a part throttle issue, not a WOT issue.

just noticed that someone else on here with a mach 1 is having the same issue with this revision...so i'm wondering if it's a mistake in the tuning. only problem is that with this calid on the car, i can't try older revisions to see if it corrects it.

Anyone else have any ideas of what might be causing this? The car seems to be running ok with the 87 tune + 4 degrees at WOT, but just not as good as the 93 tune was.
