Powering the predator

Post by M@ndrake »

hi all, sorry if this is a frequently asked question..

ive ordered my predator and ive got a couple of questions regarding its updating and power needs.

1) when i get it first time do i HAVE to plug it into the computer and update it? or is it fully loaded from the box?

2) i live in australia and here we use 240v power.. ive been told the predator runs on 110v. so for this i will need to buy a transformer which costs about 100 dollars over here.. so i was wondering if i could update the predator by plugging it into the obd2 port of the car (which would give it power - instead of a wall socket in my house) and simultaneously having it plugged into my laptop which has got wireless internet and the updated files ready to be transferred into the predator.

Thanks :)

1. if you're buying it new, it should be up to date already.... depending on how old the dealer's/vendor's stock is...

2. yes, you can plug it into your OBD port for power and your laptop...

M@ndrake - I'm in the same boat. I recently purchased a new predator for my '09 SRT-8 and it came with the 120 VAC to 12 VDC 1 amp transformer, which is as useful to us as a hole in the head. Went to Dick Smith's and Tandy's to buy a suitable transformer for our voltage (240 VAC) and was told by the manager that they no longer stock 1 amp 12 volt transformers, although he said they were a "handy" item and would order some in specially (best they had was 700 milliamp). I've been waiting for over a week now and not heard anything. They should not be too hard to find and I reckon will cost around AU$50 at the most.
In the meantime, use the power from your OBD port. Take note though, that if your car is an '09 model you may have to get the predator support guys to send you the latest CROM file as this is not available for download from their site strangely enough. Please refer to my recent post on the general support page.
Hope this helps mate.

FWIW, 700 milliamp will work.
