Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
I'm wondering, if my truck runs fine with the 93 can tune with the mods i have would it be a waste to pay for a CMR tune? Would a CMR tune make any more power to make it worth wild to pay for it?
Has anyone used the tuner and had your vehicle run fine and then get a CMR tune and it was a night and day differance?
I have been using an SCT and still own it but wanted to try something that was a little more user friendly, my SCT give my truck a lot more power and puts me back in the seat. So far my Diablo has great features and the truck runs fine but i'm starting to miss the power of my SCT. Does anyone think a CMR would change that around?
(This is not to start a SCT/DIABLO/SUPERCHIP argument)
Just looking for what will make my truck faster and more powerful.
Thanks

with your setup a cmr tune would show better rwhp the cam exhaust so on the canned tunes are only for stock vechiles. you truck has been modified id get the cmr tune but only from a dyno not a email tune cause then they be able to see a/f and set it safe

Yes, there is a good bit of power hiding in a custom tune with that cam, likely 25-30 rwhp more.

All I know is the dyno tune done on my car sure helped! The Predator canned tune was good, but the custom tune found an extra 20 or so hp over the canned tune for me.
RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
With just a few bolt ons and a CMR tune my Charger R/T gained 45 RWHP and 43 RWTQ.

Hummmmm........ so Mike, what do you reckon I could gain by having AJ do a Dyno tune over Johans base toon?

Tough to say...assuming he has the fueling set good, there may well be some power hiding in the timing curves. No way to know till you strap it down....!Mike_Levy wrote:Hummmmm........ so Mike, what do you reckon I could gain by having AJ do a Dyno tune over Johans base toon?

I don't think Mike_Levy is every going to get to a dyno. First he did the motor work, then he got the *temporary* tune from Johan so he could drive it to the tuners... that was months ago and now he's going to wait for the KBmikel wrote:Tough to say...assuming he has the fueling set good, there may well be some power hiding in the timing curves. Everytime me and AJ try to get together, something happens. We've had to cancel 3 times now. Its like I'm cursed.
RE: Re: RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
ANY dyno (well, ok, maybe 4 wheel) You don't have to tune it this time. Just get a print out. 1 pull. AJ is the ONLY guy that can run his dyno? Tell him that he owes you just 1 pull for canceling 3 times. You can make an appt to tune it later.

RE: Re: RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
The only AWD dyno is way out on the Island. I'm not going out there more then once, so he has to be there. Problem is, he travels around doing tunes for everybody in the world, so getting time with him is a real PITA.
Oh and he didn't cancel on me, I cancelled on him. First time the truck wasn't finished and had no topend on the motor. Second time I don't remember why, and the third time was when it got hit.
I just PM'd him on the JSRT8 board. Hopefully he'll get back to me and we can set everything up.

RE: Re: RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
Any chance someone know where i can get a dyno CMR tune for my truck in NC? All the local shops only tune the Fords and Chevies. I have a set of SHARADON SP2 heads that have been milled .20 that will be going on soon as well as a black majic 180 e-fan. After that i need a good tune. Ive been told to try the 91 can tune, some pretty fast trucks are using it with small tweaks using the hand held. Thats why i asked about a CMR tune, i'm just not that knowledgable about where to add here and there with the hand held.
Thanks

RE: Re: RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
If the CMR tune can find more power just by playing with the PCM then why don't you DS guys make the canned tune like the CMR tune so that it truly kick ass out of the box?
RE: Re: RE: Is a CMR tune a waste of $ ?
'cause they make a conservative generic tune for basically stock cars. It's a pretty good one. You can tweak it for individual cars for very slight gains or you might tweak it because you don't have access to the best gas or you might tweak it for torque management to get shift feel more to your liking. The main reason for CMR tunes is for physically modded cars.
The canned tunes are on the conservative side to give a bit of margin for bad gas, different conditions. They're not going to push the limits where it's going to damage your car if you get a bad tank of gas for example. That's because most people don't monitor everything and don't want something where you just shut it off till you fix it when that happens. Stock these come with an even larger safety margin. People fill up with 89 and stuff like that. So you can safely get some performance gains without compromising engine safety or longevity. After that it's a tradeoff between performance, reliability, and longevity. Most people aren't willing to make that tradeoff either.
And there isn't any "THE CMR" tune. It just means that with the CMR software you can tweak most all tables and parameters so you can tune for a cam, heads, blower, etc.
