Copy of the message as appears on my pc:
Description:
Windows detected a new device attached to your computer, but could not find the driver software it needs to make the device usable. Each device manufacturer typically includes driver software of a CD that comes with the device, or as a download from its website. The hardware ID of your device is USB\VID_067B&PID_2303&REV_0300.

OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1
Locale ID: 3081
I've tried all the obvious things (maybe I'm just a dumb arse). Downloader tried o auto-detect the tool, but couldn't.
Had previously installed the driver (disc that came with my tool) but this didn't seem to make any difference. When prompted by windows, put disc in again. Still nothing.
Is there a problem because I'm using a 64 bit (vista ultimate) system perhaps?
Any help appreciated because the way it is now, I can't do a thing!

RE: tool won
64 bit Windows could be a problem. What cable are you using?
RE: tool won
I'm using the cable that came with the tool. It links the tool to my pc via a usb2 plug. Blue fittings at both ends and a braided cable.
Perhaps I should try using my son's laptop that's running Windows XP?
I must say that I'm a bit disappointed. I would have assumed in this day and age, any hardware would be simply "plug and play".

Re: RE: tool won
If Microsoft ever got their act together and actually created a good operating system, everything would be a lot easier. Vista, like Windows ME, is junk. The whole OS should have been re-written from the ground up a VERY long time ago. I can't even imagine what this new Windows 7 will be like.oldval225 wrote:. . . Windows 7 is supposed to be great (well, really good). That's from reviewers like Leo Laporte that agree with you 100% that ME and Vista were/are junk.

RE: Re: RE: tool won
The problem has absolutely nothing to do with Vista (which is actually a very stable OS, 3rd party drivers are the problem) it is because it is 64 bit. Drivers must be signed to run in kernal mode on 64 bit Windows operating systems. This is nothing new. You have a few options; find 64 bit drivers, which I believe DS offers, use your son's laptop, or use a 32 bit virtual machine.

RE: Re: RE: tool won
I had the same problem with Vista 64 on my machines (I have several, and all now work with serial-to-usb cable provided by DiabloSport). I searched out the Vista 64 drivers on a 3rd party site (can't remember off top of my head). Then I reported my success to this forum, so you should be able to find my old thread if you searh it up). I thought they had made this a 'sticky' at one time, but I don't see it. Maybe it's under 'downloads' on DiabloSport site... you should be able to find it.
... yeah - go to 'Support | Downloads', select your vehicle from the dropdowns... near bottom of downloads listing are drivers for Vista 64. Should work fine!

RE: Re: RE: tool won
There is a new file for 64 bit systems. The download file published on the diablo site is old and still didn't rectify the problem. I did however come across a file that works. It can be downloaded here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files//IO Cable/PL-2303/Drivers - Generic/Windows/allinone/PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_10311.zip
I hope this helps others with a similar problem.
