Not Programming

Post by mgab911 »

I recently purchased a U7145 for my 2007 Mustang GT. When i select the performance tune it goes all the way through the menu until you get to turn the key hot. At which time it times out and says did you turn the ignition on. I check with a diagnostic device and it reads fine. Is there something else that could be wrong. Also it has happened with another tuner they sent it back and the second one does the same problem. I tried the troubleshooting and did the ob 2 test and got the same message for it timing out.

I have read the other message with the not recognizing the key on. I have no Electronic upgrades done to this car except; The only thing i have done is switched a 2007 single disk cd player for a 2006 6 disk cd player.

I have the same exact problem. I've been running the 93 Performance Tune for about 9 months and now I'm switching to a custom tune from Bamachips. When I tried to install the tune it wouldn't recognize the ignition on. I haven't done a single thing to the electronics in my car.

I called Diablosport today...the answer was that they had no idea what was going on and that i need to send my predator back in. So much for having my new tune installed for car show weekend.

The RMA is supposed to take 30 days, I have to pay for shipping, pay to get the dealer to put the stock tune on, and then pay for more gas because my car will run rich the entire 30 days just because there was a problem with their product. I had no idea the cost to keep the product working was $600.

Ummm....it will not take 30 days, it says 'up to 30 days'. General turn around is 10 days.

Why would the car run rich without the tune?
CAI? If so, put the stocker back on till you get the Predator back, no?

A CAI would make the car run lean, not rich. And no, I do not have a CAI. It runs rich because my car has an x-pipe with high-flow cats. Since the cats aren't stock, the rear O2 sensors freak out and throw a code because the temperature isn't as high as it would be otherwise. In order to compensate, the car goes into a kind of fail-safe mode where it runs rich. I recently ordered a custom tune that would disable the rear O2 sensors, but I cannot install the tune without a working Predator. For now I've had to clear the code when I start my car so it won't run rich.
I still have to go pay a dealer if I ever want to put another tune on my car after I get the predator back, which according to your technical support, could cost upwards of $100. I get charged extra money because of some weird computer problem from the programmer.
Up until now I've had no problems with Diablosport, but this whole ordeal just makes other programmers look more appealing to me than they had before.

Not all CAI's make cars run lean, a few of the cheaper ones actually make them run rich. The check light will come on for no catts but there is no "rich failsafe mode" It may smell rich due to not having catts, but it should not actually be going rich. Datalog fuel trims when the check lamp comes on and you should see this.

Anyone with half a brain would be smart enough to not get one of those intakes. If it's running rich then it would actually have less flow than the restrictive stock filter. I am running cats and the exhaust does smell rich when I do not clear the code compared to when I do. It will always smell rich on start-up since the cats aren't warmed up and they flow better than stock anyway. Just wondering...how much experience do you have with the complexity of the new computer systems in Mustangs?...because they really are a pain in the ass. People don't buy Malfunction Indicator Light Eliminators just because they don't want to see the check engine light lit up. The computer defaults into a closed-loop mode and adds fuel to compensate for what it believes is a lean condition. Not only do you smell a difference, but you can also feel a "heavy" throttle that causes the car to bog down under acceleration.

Are you asking me, the guy who works for DiabloSport, a company whose main purpose is to deal with PCMs, or Wayne, one of our CMR dealers, who has tuned hundreds of late model Mustangs, how much experience we have?

Hopefully I just answered that with my question.....

Although I guarantee you know more than I do about these things...after talking to your support lines, just working for Diablosport doesn't necessarily mean you are always an authority on the subject. Whoever I talked to when I called the technical support lines didn't know much to anything regarding my situation or what could be wrong with the Predator when this same exact problem has happened to plenty of other people.
I'll datalog my fuel trims as soon as I can. If the computer constantly thinks the car is running lean because of the x-pipe, wouldn't it cause a noticeable increase in short and long term fuel trim making it run rich? Since I clear any pending codes when I start my car it also resets fuel trims. The light probably doesn't come on until about the 3rd start after the code being cleared.
I know I'm not the only person in the world that installed an x-pipe and then experienced a rich condition. There's a reason why the rear O2 sensors are disabled in just about every custom tune. My friend has the same exact problem from an offroad x-pipe on his car and has a wideband O2 sensor where you can clearly see the car is running rich without anything else being done to the motor.

This is a quote tech center boss at Magnaflow, Richard Wiatas. (pulled from an article about adding an x-pipe to an S197 Mustang regarding the loss of power on the dyno and a jagged HP line after a dyno pull and talking about the effect on the ECU)

"Knowing only that it is running too lean-but not how lean-the computer compensates by adding extra fuel, which causes it to run rich and pull out fuel. This causes the engine to run lean again, and you have a repeating cycle of rich and lean with a corresponding sawtooth pattern in the powerband."

Even if my car isn't running rich the entire time, fuel economy suffers and the codes thrown by the cats results in a loss of power.

you can argue with these guys at diablosport about the seriously expensive product that you worked your @$$ off for and now it doesnt work, and you can argue about the car that YOU own that YOU work on and THEY have never even seen, and you can argue, and even try to be nice, and f**king argue; then you realize this is just an inferior product and that much less expensive alternatives are available for properly tuning your car. Then, when those products don't work, you contact the company and they MAKE them work BEFORE they jump back on your tit and start suckling the money again.

Not looking for an argument, but you are quite misinformed about this.

Even that statement from Magnaflow is quite flawed, and does not fully account for how fuel trims work.

Also, the reason rear O2s sensors are disabled in just about every custom tune is due to the fact that the catalytic converters are removed. The rear O2 sensors have NO control over your fueling. Also, deleting codes does NOTHING to reset fuel trims.

Also, you mention something being wrong with your Predator...that is so not the case.

If you smell something new after removing cats, it is often mistaken for a 'rich smell', but it is in fact a smell that the cats were designed by the EPA to trap...

It is obvious you have done some homework on this subject, but it seems you are only 'finding' the answers that fit what you think it should be. X-pipes on stangs are nothing new to me, I have been doing that since like '91....and it should not be this complicated.

Get the car to a good quality Mustang shop and see what they have to say.

Thanks
Mike
