U7151 08 F150 Will not write tune

Post by tinslwc »

Hello again,

I have a U7151 rev. 9r06 that will not write any tune to my vehicle.

The tool shipped with 9r05 which had no parameters to change so I updated to 9r06, which does have parameters but will not write to the truck.

Updating the rev:
1. Restore original backup (divorces the tool).
2. Use DS Downloader to send new revision to tool
3. No problems.

Changing Parameters:
1. Plug tool into vehicle
2. Modify stock tune parameters for different tires
2a. Change revs/mile from 682 to 643 (265/60/R18 -> 305/60/R18)
3. Save original backup (worked fine)
4. Send tune to vehicle (see below for transcript from tool)
5. Write failed

Everytime I turn the tool on, I am prompted with "The last tune failed...". Pressing ESC will get me to the main menu where I can talk to it with the PC but I cannot load any new (performance or not) tunes to the vehicle.

Transcript:

(Plug in Predator, Key Off)
(Booting...)
"The last tune did not finish. The original will be restored."
(Click OK)
"Restore Original Backup now?"
(Choice 1: Click No)
"You may now unplug the Predator"
(unplug)
(Choice 2: Click Yes)
"Turn the ignition key ON. Do not start engine."
(Turn Key on, Engine Off, Click continue)
"Turn the ignition key Off"
(Turn key off, click Continue)
"Turn the ignition key on..."
(turn Key on, Engine Off)
(Wait minute or so)
"Turn ignition key OFF, then ON.
Do NOT start engine."
(Click Continue)
"Unable to restore Original Backup"
(Click More info)
"Unit 1:error erase vehicle(-1)
You may now unplug the Predator"
(unplug)

Currently:
The stock tune is in the vehicle (written with 9r05) and runs with no problems. Nothing has been written to the vehicle since the tool has been updated. The original backup has been loaded to the tool and the tool is married to the car now.

Please tell me where to go from here. I am pretty sure it is an issue with the tool and not the car because I had no issues loading the performance tune and the the original tune before I updated the tool to 9r06. Since 9r06, nothing.

What is the "Force" method? Is this the path to take. It said something about dealers only so I did not try.

Thanks,
Bill

OK, so I drove the truck tonight and something doesnt seem right. The last tune I attempted to load was the Premium Performance tune with corrected Revs/mile parameters for my tire size. My speedometer appears to be correct (which would imply a successful flash). I did not get above 45mph so I cannot be sure. I will be driving about 100 miles tomorrow and will know for sure if the odo/speedo is correct and will post back. It is also idling high (900-1000 RPM) which is not right for the stock tune or the performance tune so I dont know what is going on there and it has never done that before. I have no MIL light. According to the tool, the last successful flash was the stock tune. This doesnt make sense considering none of the writes have been successful since I upraded to 9r06. Any ideas?

OK, scratch that last post, the idling appears to be correct (Ill chalk that up to the PCM learning the engine again) and the Speedo/odo is still 6% off. Everything appears to be as if I am running the stock tune (as I said in the first post). Any ideas on fixing this? The reason I bought the thing was to fix the speedo/odo, not the tuning, but that would be nice.

There are a few new parameters in there for the truck when adjusting gears/tires. You need to make sure you enable gear/tire change for the adjustments to take effect.

The trucks idle higher on startup and when cold so that does require some running time to verify, just like you did.

Today i finally got the new update 9r07 for my 2007 f 150 4.6L and it will not write the tune to the truck. I tried to install the original backup and it says that it could not install that either. My truck starts and seems to be running normally, but WTF? I bought this thing 3 months ago and have yet to be able to use it.
