FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
2006 300c SRT8 u7135 ver. 9R12
So, a quick story, i had the predator on my car for about 4 months and it worked awesome...... Then the trouble started, my 06 300c srt8 threw a code (thermastat temp to low), no big problem. i figured just get the predator and clear it, then the predator stated "the application or file is corrupt or missing" . So i went on the DSDownloader and it show me how to correct the problem, so i did. then i went to clear the code in my car which worked prefectly. While the predator was plugged in i wanted to put the stock tune on while my sister was driving the car. half way through the install of the stock tune the predator said it was unable to install and made me unplug the predator. I then hear a noise in the rear of the car sounding like the fuel pump, so i turn the ignition off and switch out the pcm with the B&G PCM (which i thought i would never need again). i go to start the car after the install and it turned over and stopped! WTF..... i then knew the motor had to have been hydrolocked (cylinders full of fuel). I then pulled all coils off and spark plugs out, finding two cylinders hydolocked. I put towels over the valve covers and one tap at a time turning over the engine to release the fuel out of the cylinders. after cranking for a little while we thought we had almost got all the fuel out until, BAM FIRE. after scrambling putting the fire out with, last resort a hose we find very few things wrecked/burned. We assumed a coil released a spark big enough to ignite the fuel on the towels, after feeling like a complete jackass we unpluged the coils from there harnesses and finished releasing the fuel. we then put the spark plug in and coil packs on and the car ran perfect other than the fire damage.
After all that is their anything you guys can do to get the tune off the predator and or make the predator as if it had never tuned my car so, if i even can, tune the B&G PCM with the predator?
Thanks DANSRT88

RE: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
Your predator didnt malfunction, you tried to tune a vehicle while it was turned on and running!
RE: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
seriously, you need to change the subject of your thread. It is misleading. When I read the forum, I thought you were posting how the predator malfunctioned and started a fire in the car.
Re: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
I didn't think the Predator would even let you do that. Good jobdansrt88 wrote: While the predator was plugged in i wanted to put the stock tune on while my sister was driving the car. half way through the install of the stock tune the predator said it was unable to install and made me unplug the predator.
Also swapping out a PCM with the battery connected and/or key on can sometimes energize the injectors just enough so they can stick open. This allows the residual fuel pressure to drain INTO the cylinder.

NO AS MUCH AS IT MAY SOUND LIKE I DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING, I HAVE WORK ON CARS MY WHOLE LIFE AND EVEN THOUGH I DONT KNOW EVERYTHING I DO KNOW HOW TO USE A PREDATOR. THE KEY WAS TURNED TO ACC. WITHOUT THE CAR RUNNING, JUST AS DIABLOSPORT TELLS U TOO.

I heard of that a while back just before i bought my B&G PCM. I always disconnect the batterie when doing any electrical work or PCM swaps, granded this is only the second time i've done one.
RE: Re: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
This is at least the 3rd time I have heard of a failed program attempt causing the injectors to lock up a motor with fuel.
1 guy killed the motor
1 Guy got stupid lucky and all the gas went out the tail pipe
and this guy and a small fire.
Something not quite kosher.

ewww... wasn't aware of that. Sounds like something that should be characterized and then called out with a big warning somewhere.

I'm pretty sure that this meant that his sister would be using his car and he wanted to reinstall the stock tune. Not that he was trying to reinstall the tune while she was actually driving the car
then maybe people should learn how to type and word things properly
RE: Re: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
WOW! Ah, I see. When I first saw this I thought you meant the predator made your ride catch on fire. I just cancelled an order bc of it. We need a different title to this. I've gotta set my order for a predator back up now. So misleading
Re: RE: FIRE after predator malfunction!!!
Notice how I wrote this response weeks ago and it still hasnt been changed.concoursd wrote:seriously, you need to change the subject of your thread. It is misleading. When I read the forum, I thought you were posting how the predator malfunctioned and started a fire in the car.
Starting a car fire using a very low voltage device like the Predator is very unlikely to ever happen.
