DON'T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR OIL!!
Hemi owners, its imperative to check your oil! Mine was changed less then 2000 miles ago, yet when I checked it today, it was almost 2 quarts low. Had a fair amount in the catch can, but its gotta be going someplace else too. Also got the strong smell of gas when I pulled the dipstick, so I'm wondering if I have a problem.

Just a reminder to check your oil, guys.

RE: DON
who changed your oil. Hemis dont use that much it has to be that they did not put in the wright amount or you have a big oil leak. the gas smell may be coming from around the fule injectors check for leaks. Gas in the oil was a problem in older carburated cars because of fluding of the carberator. Excess fule in the intake went into the piston and went past the rings into the oil pan.
RE: DON
Dealer changed it. Took 7 quarts, which is what the manual says. I'm not seeing any leaks, at least not external. There aren't any puddles under the truck.
The injectors and o-rings were replaced about 8k miles ago. I'd hope that any leaks would have been noticed before now?

RE: DON
Have you noticed any blue or white smoke coming from the exhaust. If not there is no place for it to go but on the ground from a leak. You said the dealer changed the oil. I have had work done at the dealer before and they have not toped off the fluids correctly. I took it in for the brakes and they left the resivor almost empty. They make mistakes too. It does not have to be a big fule leak for you to smell it. If the fule smell is coming from under the hood you need to take it back to who ever screw with the fule injectors and have them take a look. You could end up with a fire under the hood if you have a leak. Are you sure it is gas you are smelling. You did not say how many miles were on the car?.
RE: DON
No real smoke coming from the exhaust. It does have some condensation "smoke" when its cold (which sucks with the center exhaust; it causes the back window to fog), but no "smoke", per se.
The dealer did the oil change properly. I stood there and watched the tech. I always do. I'm super anal about who I let work on the truck and what they do.
The fuel smell is weird. It was definetly a gas smell when I pulled the oil dipstick. Then again though, when I remote start the truck, the whole damn thing smells like gas, inside and out for a while. Its starting up way rich, and then leaning out as it warms. Betting its the tune. I'm still on a base tune Johan did, with heads/cam/headers/mani/90mm TB/etc. Been on this tune for a long time now, and it runs like a Beast....... once its warm. Cold its not happy, and i won't push it until the oil temp gets to at least 160.
Truck has just under 16k miles on it. Top end was done at 7700.

RE: DON
Never heard of a HEMI using 2 quarts of oil in 2000 miles. I've had a 300C, Charger R/T, Magnum R/T, and Challenger R/T in the last 4/5 years and none of them has used much more than a drop between oil changes. Sorry I can't help you with the problem, though.
RE: DON
If you can smell gas in the oil when you pull the dip stick you are running rich. You need to change the oil again and find the problem. If you continue to run it with gas in the oil you will screw the engine up. The oil can not lub the engine with gas in it. Sounds like you had alot of work done on it. You can use the preditor to see if your running rich and make any changes you need to. As for the engine using oil there is no place for it to go unless you have a leak or you are buning it. Check a plug to see if its fouled up. If its not you are not burning it.
