U7194 update, again...

w000000t. Just thought I'd post a little update since I havn't in a while...

Today I just randomly out of the blue decided to see if my Predator would do ANYTHING at all after being completely non-functional for so long (well, it always turns on... you just can't do anything related to a vehicle with it).

And do my surprise, it actually worked... mostly.

It actually realized that I had my truck set to "on" and allowed me to see the tune menu for the first time in forever. In fact just for laughs and since I technically needed to update to my fall/winter LTFT tune anyway, I tried to tune it, and yet again I was surprised because it actually completed successfully.

With that said, I havn't tried to do a log yet to see if the logging parameters have shown back up as well, but at LEAST it's not capable of doing something.

With that said, I tried to do a original backup restore before trying to tune it, and it said it couldn't read the CALID.

The reboot after it gave that message it allowed me to tune though... so correct me if I'm wrong, but upon reboot it actually was able to read the CALID correct? If it couldn't, I assume it wouldn't allow me to tune.

What I'm thinking at this point is that while my predator obviously isn't completely scrapped like I thought it was, there are one of two potential problems.

1. Portions of the firmware somehow got corrupted

OR

2. Something in my Predator is loose.

Now, I'm leaning towards option 2 because I also noticed that the cable has turned a little white and looks comparatively "skinny" in comparison to the other cable where the cable goes into the Predator. Could the cable have somehow gotten stripped? Or perhaps melted a little ONLY at that point? I mean I keep the Predator in my glove box under normal circumstances but I've never pulled it out and had in burn my hand or anything... nor do I think it's that possible for a glove box to get hot enough to melt or damage parts that weren't already defective.

When the Predator allowed me to tune I held the cable in place by hand kind of pushing the cable into the predator (although it didn't really visibly move).

Keep in mind, the last error my Predator gave before it went into a coma a few months ago was the ECKS Fatal Error, and I STILL have not received an answer to what the hell an ECKS error is... that might be helpful in troubleshooting the problem.

Of course, DiabloSport is welcome to replace my three-month-out-of-warranty predator with one a little less screwy! Otherwise I'd like some help in potentially fixing the problem myself... I've got a bit of an engineering background so I'm able to tinker with circuit boards and electronics in general if I just know what I'm working with.

So again I ask... what the hell is an ECKS fatal error?

I downloaded the info from my car to the POS Diablow Predator and cannot get the info from the POS Diablow to my computer. It is v.9r08 which from my understanding is obsolete. Can i send this obsolute POS Diablow Predator back to you and have you download my cars info and update it and send it back so i can load it onto my car? Why do you allow your suppliers to sell obsolete crap and expect the customers to update it. I spent alot of money on this thing and would expect it to work out of the box without going through this nightmare.

I had the same problem and went ahead and bought a usb cable so I could download updates. I don't think it is right to buy 2 separate components but since it was still cheaper to buy both and pay for shipping than buying Hypertech, Superchips, ect...I thought it was worth it. Especially since I will be updating and sending files to my pc.

The pc adapter cables should definatly be included with the predator when you purchase it. It is just a no brainer to me.

U7194 for Chevy Silverado 1500 2009. Bought a diablo predator brand new, out of the box and it doesn't work. I've never bought a product for anything, paid as much as this, and have it not work. What's the deal. I call diablo and always the same answer ( no difinitive answer ) " Oh it's been a problem lately, so just keep checking in, online, for the update. This is bullshit. I am about to send it back.

is it giving you an error message on the screen when you try to tune the vehicle??

I just opened mine and went to install and have the same problem. U7194 - '07 escalade. When trying to set up arrived at the Performance Tune screen and when entered went directly to modify stock or backup and when tried to mod stock gave me must down load info to DS. Called and was told update to .13 soon any day now, they are having problems with new updates from GM. My last update from GM was March. What a shame. Will be returning it. It shipped directly from Dsport.

Mikel - quick response must say thank you! However... now i must drive 15 miles each way to spend another $30++ on a usb/serial and 12v 1amp unit to down load???? (no i perfer not to use my laptop) lets make a deal. If you can pull some strings and send me these items at no charge ups red early am delivery Thurs 12/24 i will keep the unit.

Hey, not trying to be a bhole, i am 50 yrs old, yes grumpy sometimes, morevoer, very excited to get this up and running like my new blue cia pill air intake, i believe in what you do and if i turned the key on to soon or was to excited and created the problem would not be the first mistake i made. i am willing to keep trying with your assitance.

While I can understand you guys anger with it not working you haft to look at the bigger picture. Everybody is recommending the Predator because they are squeezing better performance out of their tunes. I am guessing this is because they are digging deeper then the rest and changing more. The more you change the more room for error there is going to be. When it comes to stuff like this there are some errors that you just simply can not catch on a test bench. Again I can understand the frustration with it not working, but they really are probably doing all they can to get it fixed. When it comes to finding errors in programming it can be a tedious process that there is just no way to rush.

Plus when you go Predator you get the secret weapon. We call it "the Lew." aka 06MonteSS

The main point is though if you can stand to wait they will fix the problems that you are having. You just haft to be patient.(I know I hate hearing that too)

if you want to update your predator, download data logs, import/export tune files, you will need to go and buy the pc interface kit.... instead of driving, you can just buy it online from here:

and have it shipped right to your door, that way you don't have to worry about driving to go get it...

check your packing list / bill of sale... diablosport does not sell directly to consumers/end-users... if you ordered it through diablo's website, it actually places your order with a reseller/vendor that is close to your area where you live, and they are the ones that you bought it from and they are the ones that shipped it... not diablosport themselves...

Yes I did purchase from reseller but it was dropped shipped direct from Dsport, UPS RED (special shipping offer). Can’t wait, must visit my local Staples and pay the $35 for the usb/serial cable, fortunately I have plenty of 12V power supplies lying around. Need to see if the fix works, if not, will be tough to get answers with the holiday schedule.

Day 2, tried the update... still don't work, sent the stock tune download file to ds...

One thing I recommend is make a package with the tuner that includes the PC interface kit. It will most likely be required anyway. Adjust the pricr and include it as a complete kit. This would help calm a lot of gripes for new customeres as they are excited to get your product and cannot because they cannot update the tool.
