05 F-250 fuel economy

Post by jtc1983 »

Hello All,
I recently purchased a "2005 6.0" Predator for my truck. The guy that owned the truck before me claimed to get 18-20 MPG highway using this product. Also I did not buy it from him so I fugured he had no reason to lie to me. I have driven for a while with stock tuning (inductive heat flash from ford) and got about 14-15 highway. I installed the predator on eco/perf tune - latest revision - and if anything it has gone down. I drive the same way I did before. What am I doing wrong here. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Jtc1983,

I have the same problem with my 05 Ford Excursion. Went in for normal maintenance and the nice guy at Ford went and flashed my truck. I had to have Diablo unlock the Chip so I could reinstall it and give me the latest revision. I too was getting 19-21 mpg and then after the flash, I would be luckty to get 16. I want to know if there is a way for Ford to put back the original bios and have Diablo give me back the tune I had in it at that time when I was getting 21 mpg. I too am very frusturated. I've worked with the guys at Diablo and nothing they have done has increased my mpg. I'm stuck with poor mpg and a check engine light that will never go off do to the most latest tune.

Yeah I also tried to get the dealer to flash the old program back on there. No dice. That being said I am "glad" for lack of a better word to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. I thought that by tuning the vehicle, you could override the crap the dealer puts on there. So isn't it possible to write or modify a tune to set it up the way it was to achieve the economy people were previously getting? Again, I appreciate the help!

Any Ideas on the latest update or the truck you guys were testing? I am taking an out of state trip in the next few weeks and it sure would be nice to have my mileage back. :)

Hi guys, new user here, just got my '05 F250 6.0, its lifted 10" in the front and 8" in the rear. It has 37x13.50x22 Nitto Trail Grapplers on. I just bought the truck and the previous owner purchased the Diablo Predator and it was already tuned to the 100hp setting. Any idea what mileage i should be getting? I filled up 2 days ago and between highway mileage and city mileage, i am now at a quarter tank with only 187miles. Im not sure what i can do, im not stabbing it, nor am i dogging it, i have occasionally gave some passer-bys a little black smoke, but not too much. This truck is a little higher than usual and i know that would make a huge difference, but Im just trying to get the best mileage. I am in the military and i drive from Jacksonville, Fl to Orlando, FL on a weekly basis. My Calid is VXCF4NE if that is any help. Thanks again Guys!!!

Phillip... Just doing "estimation math" you are getting about 9-10 mpg? I drive basically the same set up you are, only difference is I'm running Toyo M/T 37's, and yes you can still get the good mpg's with your set up. The only time that I've had that kind of mpg's is when I had some warranty work done on my truck and Ford flashed my PCM to the latest stock setting that Ford has. Directly after that I was getting about 11 mpg. When I updated my predator and put it back on the truck I'm getting on average... 15 - 16 with the performance tune (doesn't really matter how hard you drive it either)... 17 - 19 with the Econ tune on the interstate... The worst I have gotten is around 14... Only thing I can suggest is setting your truck back to stock, go to DS's download page and make sure you have the latest update, and reinstall everthing... you should be getting better? Good luck...

Is it possible, with the next update, to get a true economy tune? I have been running the 100 hp tune for 5 years on my 2005 6.0, simply because I get better mpgs. I would like to tone it down a bit, and use the economy tune (just passed 116,000 miles).

Thanks,
Eric
