Canned tune and Throttle position Q's

Post by Danman »

2010 Cahllanger 5.7 auto. Preditor 9r21

Having problems with canned tunes having less performance than stock.
Ran Sunoco 91 oct with 91 tune. Vehicle had knock (14) so I called and was told to run 93.
Ran fuel out and did Sunoco 93. 91 tune high knock, 93 tune moderate knock. Stock running great

1. when you update does the old canned tunes get over ridden? or is it possible that old tunes are corupted?
2. Why have a 91 tune if you need 93 octane?
3. Why with better fuel is 91 not as good as 93 tune?
4. In data logs I see TPS % is 130% is it normal to see more than 100%?

Thanks for the help!

1. Tunes are part of the crom file, when you update, it replaces the old tunes with new ones.

2. When running the 91 tune, you do not need to run 93 fuel, it is designed, as the name implies, for a minimum of 91 octane fuel.

3. The 93 tune has more aggressive timing maps to take advantage of the better octane.

4. Yes.

Mike, Thanks for the reply. Number 3 still does not make sence to me. Running 93 octane and te 91 tune has higer knock values than the 93 tune. Would not the 91 tune benifit or at the very least have less issues from higher octane?

Now the next question is what do I do now that it seems both canned tunes provide less performance than stock? Do I start modifying the stock tune or detune the canned tunes?
