Do I need a tune for CAI?
Do I need a tune for CAI?
I am trying to figure out which I need to do first. I am wanting to install a CAI on my 2010 Camaro SS and also get a Trinity programmer but I can't afford to do both at the same time. If I install the CAI first will the OEM tune still be okay until I get my Trinity later?

RE: Do I need a tune for CAI?
A very good question. GO for the Trinity and right angled cord, FIRST and enjoy all the benifits! Then as you can afford other mods you will be capable of tweeking everything to perfection.
If you go the other way, there is an extreem chance you will be running lean and loosing power and have a check engine light that you cannot extinguish without the method of dialing in your ride,Properly.

Only one thing to say about my "Diablew" Tune!

Thanks, that is also what I was thinking but I'm no pro here. I trust the opinions here the most.

yep... like Ill_Born said... i'd get the Trinity first... and you can get gains with it now.. and then when you add the CAI down the road, you'll have it to adjust your tune for the new intake and get a little more giddy-up from it...

RE: Do I need a tune for CAI?
Once I get the CAI installed will the Trinity have a pre-installed tune that will work best or do I need a special tune from DiabloSport? Also I've been reading here that people are disabling the AFM when they tune. What is the reason to do that? Right now I am burning 87 octane.

GM's don't need a preset tune specifically for a CAI like the fords do... because, with the GM's, you can adjust the fueling yourself...
you would do some data logging to see where your average LTFT's (long term fuel trims) are at, and then adjust your injector slope accordingly in order to get them into the 0 to -2 range...
here's info on how to do that:
http://diablosport.com/index.php?name=P ... opic&t=917
and yes, you want to disable the AFM/DOD when doing the data logging, because when it switches to only running on 4 cylinders, it screws the data... so you need to disable the AFM/DOD before doing any data logging.
as for a "special tune" - would you NEED one? no - you can install the canned preset tune and just drive the car.
would you get even better performance from the car if you do get a custom tune written for it? - yes, absolutely.

Thanks. I really do appreciate you taking time to school a newbie like me on how to do all this. When I'm ready for a special tune I will give you a holler. Thanks again!

RE: Do I need a tune for CAI?
oooooh... yeah, do NOT do that man... you need to be using good 91 or 93 octane gas in that car!!
don't install any of the tunes to your car until you get rid of that 87 octane outta the tank and fill up with some good 91/93 octane...

91 octane is the highest octane I've found around here. I will make sure I use at least 91 octane from now on. I'm learning...Thanks!
