Too much KR?
Too much KR?
I'm just getting about 2-3 degrees of knock retard on my 2001 Firehawk, and it's throughout most of the rpm range at wot. Unfortunately I can't tell if it is only when I get on the gas or let off since it takes only seconds to be at a dangerous speed while looking at the screen. I tried taking out 2 degrees of timing all the way across the board with no luck. I even tried running the car's stock tune, and it made no differerence either (although I didn't give the pcm the regular amount of kms driven to "re-learn" the stock tune, so that may be the problem? Maybe it's artifical knock causing the retard in my case? I wonder if pulling more timing is the solution? I am running SLPs diablosport performance tune for 91 octane (with a few ltft adjustments). The only code I'm throwing is one relating to the ecm/abs (can't remember the code number right now) which didn't set off any dash lights or anything. I cleared the code and will wait to see if it comes back. Any suggestions on the KR and pulling timing? I'm running the newer 9.xx version slp diablo. I wonder if I could simply log a few parameters and record them on a digital camera to post up so someone could tell me why it's getting so much kr?

RE: Too much KR?
for WOT, no "re-learning" is necessary...
need to see the log file... cuz like you said, it could be when you just romp the pedal, or let off, or during a shift point... all of which is normal and nothing to worry about...
and it's very hard to tell what's actually happening just by looking at the data on the predator screen... because you're only seeing that data at one particular point... the screen doesn't update as fast/quick as it's actually logging data...
in the data log file, it'll have 10-20 rows of data per second... the screen does not update THAT fast
I would leave the timing adjustments alone - to whatever they're set at in the tune as-is - so put your changes back to the default values of what they were originally... and lets get some data logs to look at...

RE: Too much KR?
Okay so I have everything I need to connect my predator to my PC and I tried a dry run of logging only ltfts and total spark knock retard and it all works on the dataviewer. However I can't seem to get it to work on the DSlogRedux yet since it seems to want engine speed too or something?
Main Question:Anyways, which parameters should I log in order to find out why I'm getting some "total spark KR", and how do I upload it for you to view????
I'm just looking for some help with this until I can afford a Diablew tune! Also, does the Diablew tune include any shift point changes etc? I think I'd like to keep my tranny settings where they are all at. I don't know how much tm i have removed on the canned tune though.

RE: Too much KR?
yeah, you have to log engine speed - aka rpm's...
here's what you need to log:
Long Term fuel trim bank 1 = under FUEL menu
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 2 = under FUEL menu
Spark Advance = under IGNITION menu
Intake air Temp = under INTAKE menu
MAF Sensor Mass Air Flow = under INTAKE menu
Knock Retard = under MISFIRE menu
Engine Speed (RPM) = under PERFORMANCE menu
Absolute Throttle Position = under THROTTLE menu

RE: Too much KR?
I don't know if my menu is like that listed above (I have not updated my software-maybe that's why?). After selecting parameters what type of run should I do and log? Should I fill up the memory and should I only do ONE wot run near the start as I've read before? As far as uploading, do I just export my log file from the diablo to the data viewer and then import it to DSlogRedux (and save it as a log there)? I assume I would upload it as a DSlogRedux log file to the DS forums?

RE: Too much KR?
Actually change of plans. I'm going to get the Diablew tune after all, talked the gf into it lol. A safe tune specifically for my vehicle is worth it to me

RE: Too much KR?
I'm having difficutly. It has asked me if i wanted to copy original back tune from my vehicle and I said yes and NO to downloading last tune written. However, my vehicle currently has the custom tune in it. So should I have downloaded the last tune written from my tool and not the original backup?

RE: Too much KR?
I need BOTH files... the original backup, AND the "last tune written".... the last tune written file will be a copy of the tune that is currently installed in your car....
do you have any instant messenger?? would make things a lot easier.... you have a hotmail email, so that would be your MSN Messenger user id ...

RE: Too much KR?
and as far as the log... I need a steady driving/cruising log....
keep your rpms between 1800-2000... obviously, there will be slowdowns and whatnot due to highway traffic.... no worries... that data gets filtered out anyway...
and you may not have the submenus as mentioned above, but you'll definitely have all of those parameters I listed...
