High EGT's

Post by 07megacab »

Got an 07 with a 5.9 running intake and straight piped stack. Everything works fine on Performance but I wanted some more power so I cranked it up to Extreme RKL. Its alot more fun to drive but on a long stretch, the EGT's climb quickly to 1300*. I let off at that point so I don't know how much higher it will go, but its still climbing fast at that rate. Is this normal? I don't see that I could allow it to breath any better without replacing the turbo. Some people have suggested that this is common with the Predator?

1300 is nothing, i see mine pinned at 1500 very often. pulling a trailer up a hill is annoying because I have all this power to do it and have to let off the throttle so I don't melt something.
where do you take your heat probe from, pre or post turbo, mine is pre turbo in back half of the manifold. I am seriously thinking of add water meth kit to help that out a bit. bigger turbo, hmmmmmm well good luck,

Yeah, mine is pre turbo as well. I thought about meth, but the kits can get expensive. My buddy just bought one, paid nearly a grand for it

that sounds like it would be a very nice kit. I am still trying to find out if using water would be of any use in a towing applications for hills. Not sure how much water you would have to haul along. Just turned my tune up to the extreme. Man does it run smooth, I love it, just can't tow much or at least have to be very careful if I do.

What setting do you tow with. I am getting mine tomorrow, will I see these high EGTs with the tow setting?

No, the quoted numbers were on the 180 HP tune, the 65 HP tow tune is perfect for towing.
