Insurance against a dealer reflash

Post by Merlin »

U7158
2003 F150 HD S/C
Revision ?

I'm sure this has been covered many times already but I'm a newbie here and looking for advice.
OK, here's my question.

In the unlikely event the FOMOCO dealer re-flashes my truck before I am able to restore the factory tune via the U7158 is there any way I may be able to protect myself for a toasted tuner?

In that event is there any way to re-flash my truck with my predator?

E.G. If I used the PC interface SYNC KIT *USB* U7778 and copied the factory flash to my PC. Then in the event the $tealership flashed my truck I could copy from the PC to the U7158 and do a restore etc.

ummmm... restore your original backup before you ever take it to the dealer... easy enough...

Agreed. My concern is that I keep my tuner at home.
I don't see a need to carry it with me everywhere I go.

If I have an issue and I'm unable to re-flash before the $tealership get it.
I think that cover at least will give the Ford tech "a clue" before re-flashing.
It's certainly cheaper than going through the "please unlock my tuner" drill.

Thanks wrenbirdx, for the link.

Thanks! I ordered one! $6 for the part. $10 for shipping (OUCH!)
Well, it's still cheaper than a screw up at the dealership.
My interior and dash are black so I think I'll paint it black.
Painting it should make it "blend in" better with the interior.
The mechanic still has to remove it! (and hopefully read it).

Thanks again for the tip!

No dealer should retune your car w/o your permission first. When you drop the car off, don't ask, TELL THEM, to call you with their estimate on any work being done before they do the work.
