Cooling Fan Question

Post by mapurv »

I as wondering if there will be any logic in the PCM that will be adjustable for lower temperature thermostats? I currently run a 180 degree thermostat in my 06 Charger and when it gets colder outside it likes to periodically throw a code for the thermostat. I believe the code comes on because the PCM sees that it take longer for the car to warm up in colder weather and it doesn't hit the desired 195 degree temperature. I know you offer cooling fans to come on when driving but when its cold thats just going to make it worse. I don't want to be resetting my check engine light every couple of days.

We are looking into disabling this code.

Thanks

That will be great if you can do that. And thanks for the quick response.

You gotta adjust the temperatures on the fans in the tuner. The diablo settings had them all around 199 degrees. I have a 180 tstat and I set low to 181 medium to 188 and Highs to 195 so far my high fans have never kicked in even with a few hard WOT runs on the freeway. In fact with normal driving i'm staying around 188-190

I thought the code would get thrown if it didn't get to / past 180°? mapurv, are you certain about the 195° temperature?

There have been some cold mornings that I've just reached the 4127 tstat's desired temp (176°) and held there. I just fast idled for a minute (2k rpm's) and it easily got above 180°, no code. I've seen the code twice otherwise.

I'd like to know for certain what conditions will trigger the code - how long, and what temp needs to be reached.

I am not sure what temp it has to reach to satisfy the computer I was taking a rough guess. It may be higher or lower. I know the fans come on at around 210 degrees(stock). The problems seems to be when starting out cold and just taking off driving. And then throws the check engine light and it's happened to me a few times now. On warmer days it's fine I drove all summer with it never setting the light. I've just noticed it recently as the weather is cooling down. The reason I asked is that I'm going to be getting one of these programmers in the near future. And I wanted to know if there was going to be any setting in the programmer for different t-stats. To try and eliminate the check engine light from coming on at all. Even in cooler weather.

why dont you just install your stock tune for winter and use your performance tune in summer, why do you need horsepower when theres snow on ground
my 2 cents

This somewhat on the same subject. I have a pm into Mike on this. With the perf. CAI or performance tune installed my fans start running as soon as I crank the car. I have the factory thermostat and no matter how high I set the temps, when I start up, the fans run on high. Anyone else having this problem or have a solution? I had to revert back to the original stock tune to get them right again!

Yes, my fans come on when I start the car. The parameters say 199 degrees in the tuner, but when I start the car, I can hear the low fan working. I threw a P0128 code today...any word on a fix?

Are you sure about this??? I thought the same thing, but you can't hear the low fan unless you get out and walk around in front of the vehicle.

Guy's I spent about an hour on the phone with one of the tech's at Diablo about my fans running constantly and we went through all the steps together and they still run at any temp. Was told by the tech there is a revision coming out that addresses this and it has something to do with the transmission temps. I went back to stock and no problems. I have the factory thermostat and now I'm awaiting the revision to come out!

I am having the same problem with the cooling fans. They are allways on and on high no matter what temp I set the programmer too. Also I have a rattling sound in the engine whenever I install any tune (perf/perf CAI/perf CAI 91 oct) all do the same. Only goes away when I go back to stock settiings. It is hard to identify the "rattle" since the fans are always on so high.

I have an 06 Charger SRT8 with Airaid CAI with no other mods yet. I only use 92 or higher Octane fuel

Please help, I understand there is a fix comming soon? is that right?

The performace I got out of the tuner is great!!! but I can't take the rattle and or fan noise so I am back to stock until someone can help
