im considering purchasing a trinity for my 2010 Jeep wrangler Automatic.... I previously had a 2009 Wrangler stick shift.. but the good ole back doc says I gotta drive an auto.. so I got a new one...
anyway my deal is this, id like to adjust my shift points and shift firmness on the automatic.. to help with the 42RLE hunting issue.. and also get rid of some of the drive-by-wire throttle delays as well...
those from what I understand the trinity can do and do it well..
now for my unusual requests... these have to do with the air-conditioning... yep the A/C..
the wrangler uses a thermistor on the evaporator coil to cycle the compressor off and on... this affords me about 50-55 degree air from the vents... in my past 2 JK's I have simply put a resistor across that thermistor to fool it into holding the compressor on a little longer.. (makes the computer think the coil temp is a tad higher).. . id really like to be able to tune this parameter to my liking.. find the sweet spot.. and then alter it for change of seasons.. instead of having to R&R the resistor or have an ugly switch...
id also like to be able to monitor the value of that parameter as well...
secondly the wrangler uses a pressure transducer on the high side line to bring in the electric radiator fan, and switch it to high speed.. as it is now the stock setting lets the high side pressure shoot way up before giving me high speed fans.. which results in poor A/C performance at idle or stuck-in-traffic...
I'd like to modify and monitor that parameter as well to set it down a bit s oI get high speed fans based on A/C need a little earlier..
with a soft top and soft doors.. or running topless the A/C needs all the gusto it can get in a wrangler...
being an HVAC engineer for years I realize the possible dangers of running an evaporator temperature too cold and freezing the coil.. but like any tuner if you misuse it, it can get you in trouble...
so I ask if the trinity can do this or be made to do this, because if so im ready to pull the trigger and get it... im also willing to beta test it as well..
my current career is as a software/ hardware engineer .. I product eval lots oof network / telecom equipment..
automotive wise - I spent a lot of time in the 90s editing hex files and hacking out old GM ALDL 160 and 8192 baud data streams....

Im not sure if that is all controlled by the PCM or not, if so, ideally it could be done, but I dont know how much R&D will need to go into it to make it happen...

pretty much everything on the wrangler is controlled on the computer network.. im not sure if the PCM specifically controls the Air-conditioner. but it or one of its slave modules does..
the fact it is using a thermistor and a pressure transducer says to me that it is fully computer controlled..
the service manual states that the pressure transducer is in use for cycling the radiator fans.. and also that same transducer is used for disabling the compressor in the event of loss of refrigerant charge..
that says to me the A/C and the rad fans are controlled.. id have to look at the wiring diagrams to see exactly which module on the CAN the transducer and compressor wire in to.. but ultimately the PCM is made aware, since there is a compressor disable on high engine temp.. and the rad fans are controlled by PCM which involves communications between all modules..
that said, im willing to use my Jeep to collect any data, test any code, etc...

I researched the transducer of the WK versus hi/lo switches of the TJ when doing my Hemi swap, and decided to go with transducer, but have welded in the ports on the A/C lines for both.. a secondary method of triggering the fan may be an option, not driving the existing relay control circuit, but an additional relay driving the power side.
The FSM for the 05 WK says this:
Pressure Transducer:
allows AC between 16 and 447PSI
>240 PSI activates cooling fan
< 40 degrees F deactivates A/C
here is the full text in the 'HVAC - Service information' section
"OPERATION
The A/C pressure transducer monitors the pressures in the high side of the refrigerant system through its connection to a fitting on the A/C discharge line. The A/C pressure transducer will change its internal resistance in response to the pressures it monitors. A Schrader-type valve in the discharge line fitting permits the A/C pressure transducer to be removed or installed without disturbing the refrigerant in the A/C system.
The powertrain control module (PCM) provides a five volt reference signal and a sensor ground to the A/C pressure transducer, then monitors the output voltage of the A/C pressure transducer on a sensor return circuit to determine refrigerant pressure. The PCM is programmed to respond to the A/C pressure transducer and other sensor inputs by controlling the operation of the A/C compressor clutch and the radiator cooling fan to help optimize A/C system performance and to protect the system components from damage. The PCM will disengage the A/C compressor clutch when high side pressure rises above 3082 kPa (447 psi) and re-engage the clutch when high side pressure drops below 2937 kPa (426 psi). The A/C pressure transducer will also disengage the A/C compressor clutch if the high side pressure drops below 110 kPa (16 psi) and will re-engage the clutch when the high side pressure rises above 221 kPa (32 psi). If the refrigerant pressure rises above 1655 kPa (240 psi), the PCM will actuate the cooling
fan. The A/C pressure transducer input to the PCM will also prevent the A/C compressor clutch from engaging when ambient temperatures are below about 4.5° C (40° F) due to the pressure/temperature relationship of the refrigerant."
My take:
The analog wires go into the FCM, not PCM, so if they were to go to the PCM, it is over the CAN C bus, and I bet that the FCM has all the control and settings, the PCM is just capable of sending a signal that says yes or no to A/C for WOT/Limp/whatever..
So I feel fairly certain that poking around in the FCM could change these settings... I would definitely be *INTERESTED* in beta testing *any* FCM tweaks..
