Descriptions of the various InTune Chrysler Hemi Tunes

Post by RTJim »

I have been surprised that the documentation with the InTune doesn't give much (if any) description of the various features and selections. So if you have some, share them! Maybe they will make it into the User Manual, or at least listed in the DS Forums.

The User's Manual doesn't even list the names of the tunes available, none-the-less a description of what the tune is suppose to do and when to select it.

I just updated my InTune to the 1r01i firmware, which includes the Chrysler tunes: mfr='DCX' tune='1r01b'. These are the descriptions when I select each tune. I added more description in italics, from this topic/posts.

Diablo Tune
PCM Diablo Tune is designed to add power and torque, but with fuel economy in mind. Fuel mileage can always be subject to driving style and may vary from vehicle to vehicle. 93 octane

CAI Tune
PCM CAI Tune Cold Air Intake tune. 93 octane

91 Octane Tune
PCM 91 Octane Tune Performance tune for 91 octane fuel.

CAI 91 Octane Tune
PCM CAI 91 Octane Tune Performance tune for 91 octane fuel and Cold Air Intakes (CAI).

MPG Booster Tune
PCM MPG Booster Tune DiabloSport Mileage Booster tune is designed for stock to mildly modified vehicles using 87-up octane fuel with an emphasis on fuel economy. must run premium on an SRT8, just like factory tune. Recommend factory octane for R/T 5.7 (89) and truck 5.7 (87), but 87 octane and no full throttle should be fine for highway trips.

Modify Stock Tune
PCM Modify Stock Tune Modify Stock Tune allows you to change parameters, such as speed limit, without adding power or torque. factory 89 for auto R/T 5.7, factory 91 for 6-speed R/T, 91-93 for SRT, Assume same as factory octane recommendation, unless you modify it!

------------------ Other InTune Features ---------------------------
-MDS. Allows turning MultiDisplacement System off, or leaving factory functionality
-Shift Firmness. Allows selecting firmer automatic trans shifts (less torque management).
-Select tire size. Change tire size for speedometer accuracy. Either by tire diameter, or sidewall size such as P245/45 R20
-Autostick auto upshift: Stock, Mode 1, Mode 2 (may only work on 05-07 models)
Enable/Disable automatic upshift when in manual autostick mode, ie. raise your rev limits and you can shift manually at any rpm without the vehicle automatically upshifting (as it would do stock). Stock should shift at some rpm (rev limit, or shift point?), Mode 1 or Mode 2 (depends on year) will hold it in gear and the engine will bounce off the rev limiter. i.e. suitable for burnouts if you don’t want it to shift no matter what.
The tech rep on the support phone line told me I should try each mode and see which works.

diablo and cai tune are 93 octane.
mod stock tune is modifying the stock tune, so we do not have an octane rating, its based on the 'stock' octane rating, unless you choose to add some timing.

FWIW, these topics have indeed been covered quite a few times on this forum ;)

Thanks for the added info, I will update my post.
If the descriptions have been written (in the hundreds of forum posts), can DS put them all in one file and post a sticky?
Or as I am trying to do, have the users do it (all in one post, or one post for GM, one post for Ford, one post for DCX, and all sticky.

That would improve the DS documentation for the users.

You obviously haven't done what you posted. Or at least haven't read it. It contains no listing of the various tunes, no description of the various tunes, and no guidelines when to use them.

Same for the other features like Autostick auto upshift Mode 1, Mode 2, etc. I have read both the Quick Start Guide, and full Users Manual several times (including doing it again after reading your post)... and there are basically NONE!

yeah, it won't go into specifics like that, because the intune can be used on many many many different vehicles, and those options wouldn't apply to all vehicles, and would cause more confusion for people... then they'd be wondering where all those options are for their vehicle, when they don't apply or exist for their vehicle... the user manual sticks to basic functionality in order to keep it compatible across all vehicle makes/models/engines....

and as MikeL mentioned above, these topics have indeed been covered quite a few times on this forum... do a search....

I'm a new owner, and RTJim is right about poor/no descriptions of what tunes specifically do being available, and your suggestion that omitting these specifics in the documentation is good somehow is crazy. You have vehicle-specific documentation and it would logically go in that document and not cause any confusion. Like RTJim, I wasted time reading all the documentation multiple times looking for what should obviously be included.
And I've done searches on Mode 1 and Mode 2, plus trying to figure out where the 93 octane tune was, and so have wasted hours to find out what you could easily have documented for all buyers. Your search function seems to turn up almost all threads, making the search not very useful, and the idea that new users should have to search forum posts that could be months old to find out basic information is also silly.

RTJim's point is valid. Not providing per car descriptions of features is quite frustrating for a new user.

Is the Diablo tune used for CAI cars as well?

What vehicle/motor? If theres a CAI tune for that particular car, then you use that. If not then its not necessary and the Diablo Tune is fine.

i'm new here too and about learning more of every options on the intune is kind of hard to search to know more about . yeah there is many diffenrent vehicle and will confused some people but you should at least have a topic or section or book whatever to explain in detail everything cause right now it's really basic info and do yourself your setup without knowing what will be the effect.

hope this topic help and diablosport will help the new or older guy that try to understand processing way of the tuning

thank you

I agree with the above. I bought mine 2 weeks ago and I am more or less finding things out on my own. Some people are not experienced with all the adjustment settings so there should be some way of knowing what each adjustable parameter does and for what vehicle

Agreed 100% here, but keep in mind the marketing/sales perspective.
Most potential users these days will search the net to see the specifics of a product like this before purchasing it.

A technical post showing that the vehicle they own will not be able to take full advantage of all the Intunes abilities (IE no TCM support), or only comes with one canned tune instead of the multiple listed options on their home page would dissuade a potential customer from purchasing the unit.

In Hindsight, possibly the best way to do this would be to create a online flash version of the intune with all available settings/tunes, have the user select their vehicle from a pull down menu of supported ones, and then have it cross reference a vehicle database to see which menu items would then be displayed in the "Virtual inTune" on the site. This would show the user exactly what they are getting on a per vehicle basis and eliminate any complaints of false claims.

Here's an example someone has made a virtual Iphone... similar idea.
