RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
Im running diablo tune with 91 gas and i have my throttle booster at 20%
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
The Rams have a High idle at first start when cold then it will idle down, my 07 hits 1500rpm then drops to 800rpm....
The knocking noise - The HEMI's are known for a ticking noise when first started up, is that what you are hearing?

It is my understanding that the diablo tune is a 93 octane tune. If you are running 91 octane gas in a 93 octane tune your motor will knock because the octane is not rich enough for the timing advance.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
Even on 91 tune it'll knock. Hemi's knock. They knock stock. But whats being heard, isn't knock. If its knocking audibly, theres a serious engine problem. The knock sensors will pull timing way before the knock can be heard with human ears.
People need to learn, LOG THE FUCKING TRUCK!!! Thats the only way to know if its knocking for sure and how much. What you hear means nothing. What the knock sensors hear is all thats important. This isn't fucking 1970. Audible knock doesn't happen much any more.

ok mike i have no idea what to look for when i log it so if i log the truck wtf do i do with the log and how will i know if theres a engine problem
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
Somebody with an inTune will have to help you. I use a Trinity and have no experience with the inTune.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
I have a 2010 RAM Hemi and I also experience knock noise. Now I now the people on here are experts, but I never heard the noise before I bought and tuned my RAM. Frankly I am getting annoyed by the people on here saying it is the RAM and not the DS Intune that has the problem. Logging, or not I have not heard the noise running stock. If it is knocking, I have not heard it. If is not the RAM, it is the gas you buy. Well, I have been running Exxon 93 supreme in it now for over a month and still getting the noise from time to time more so than not. I do not want bullshit answers, I need real problem solving answers. I not not care if you are a Chevy guy, or Ford guy and hate RAM's. I am a MOPAR guy and that is what I drive. I need help to figure this shit out. I do not want to start a negative campaign against DS intune, but as yet no one can come up with a viable answer for me. If it is the RAM, well buy buy intune. If it is the gas, well I do not use Shell anymore, so all you Shell haters can leave that one out. Whats next?

RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
I have an 05 Ram that has the infamous "HEMI TICK." A reputable dodge dealer will tell you this is normal. I would say it could be coincidental that the "HEMI TICK" began when you tuned the truck. Some do it right off the show room floor and some do it after 10,000miles. Varies from truck to truck. If you run a search on the phrase, you will find a ton of information on it.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
Thats what I said. Its not knock. You don't know if its knocking unless you log it. You CANNOT hear detonation on modern motors. If its gotten bad enough to hear it you're past the point of no return and you killed the motor.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
I have the answer to the knock, the New Hemi, I am guessing starting in 2009-2012 all have knock sensors in them. It also has MDS and it has 4 valves per cylinder. What I thought was a KR was most likely the valves. I have not gotten a MIL light, so far knock on wood. Maybe with the added fuel and pressure it is causing the valves to flutter a bit when it shifts when jumping on it.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
Not quite. They still have 2 valves per cylinder. They have MDS, Variable valve timing, and a variable intake manifold. Thats the Eagle version starting in 2009. The earlier ones don't have VVT or variable intake. All Hemis since the 2003 new generation have knock sensors. I don't think theres a single motor on the market that doesn't.
RE: 2008 dodge ram knock
So, I am not getting a MIL so I am not getting KR. It is the valve noise from the extra power, I am guessing. It makes sense to me anyhow so I will go with that for now.
