all hemi engines that are the 5.7 had one cam, 2 valves per cylinder and knock sensors. knock sensors are REQUIRED by federal law. All hemi engines with the MDS have the engine tick and at times it gets louder than others. the best way to see if it is the engine itself or the tuner is to program the MDS off. it will not drop down to a 4 cylinder at all and the tick will go away almost 100%, it is a characteristic of the design of the lifters to have a noise because they collapse when they are in 4 cylinder mode. if the noise goes away, problem solved. if it doesnt return the truck to stock and if the noise goes away, you have added too much fuel or too much spark. So after turning the truck on, how quickly does the mds kick in? i would say that it does not kick in until you are on the road at a certain speed. Most hemi users experience "HEMI Tick" shortly after starting their vehicles at idle. It typically will continue at idle but never during acceleration, even when the vehicle is warm. MDS only works when the vehicle is at highway speed and is at operating temps, and during an average acceleration the MDS deactivates and returns the engine to v8 power so that you dont get run over. The tick is most audible at idle, hot or cold. This isnt a theory of mine, its from experience as a mechanic for the last 10 years with ford and dodge. My personal truck is a2007 dodge ram 1500 with the hemi. I speak from experience that if you turn the MDS off of your truck with the intune that the tick does go away, but if the knock that you say you hear doesnt go away tuned or not then you have other issues.

I have an 05 1500 HEMI. Always have had "HEMI TICK." I also have an intune of which the mds is turned off, still has it but only at idle.

I'll agree with you, it's a hydraulic valve lifter noise which is being considered a normal characteristic of the new-generation hemispherical combustion chamber engine according to reputable dodge dealers. The technical cause is the somewhat horizontal positioning of the hydraulic roller tappets in the engine block. The lifter location projects normal lifter noise out the sides of the engine regardless of running on 4 or 8 cylinders.

6.1 springs and rods will stop your stock tick. As for the other...get a different tuner, or a ford or chevy. Diablo doesnt seem to be very interested in the Chrysler/Dodge group of us. Cant say I noticed any difference when I put on the intune other than my bank account 400 less dollars. Ill probably get booted for saying it...but your best bet is a SCT/Superchip stack for tuning. Keep the diablo if you want to datalog for a custom tune.
