Not very happy with the Trinty

Post by 2011Longhorn »

I have a 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. I'm not really impressed with the 93 Octane tune. It feels like it still has to much torque management. I raised the rev limiter +600rpms which I think makes it 6500rpms, WOT 1-2 & 2-3 shifts to 6200rpms, part throttle shifts +100rpms, raised the speed limiter, turned off MDS, throttle booster +20, E-fan set to turn on at 195. There are no manual adjustments for torque management. I have a sonnax line pressure booster which was installed before I had the Trinity and it shifted firmer that stock but it wasn't a real hard shift. Now with the tune installed it shifts real soft at part throttle or WOT and at part throttle just before it shifts it feels like the truck slows down just a bit because I can feel myself move forward a little as it's about to shift, it didn't do this before I installed the tune. At WOT 1-2 shifts just over 5600rpms and 2-3 shifts just over 5800rpms and those shift points are set at 6200rpms as stated above. When I first installed the modified 93 tune the truck wouldn't shift out of 1st gear under part throttle driving unless I went to 6200rpms then it would shift. I tried reinstalling the tune 6+ more times ( I lost count) until it would finally shift like it should at part throttle, but for some reason it changed the WOT shifts back to stock even though it showed them being 6200rpms. Today I reinstalled the stock tune and drove it to make sure. I tried to install the 93 tune twice and got an error saying it didn't install the tune, it did install on the third try. I drove it to make sure and it shifted fine at part throttle. I then modified the tune like I had it before except I left the part throttle shifts at stock and it wouldn't shift out of first unless I went to 6200rpms (I tried reinstalling the tune 4 times with the same results). I thought it might be the 93 tune so I tried the 91 tune with the same results (would not shift out of first without going to 6200rpms). I reinstalled the original tune and now have this $600 thing sitting on my desk. I have installed Volant CAI, oil catch can, JBA shorty headers, true dual exhaust with Aero Turbine mufflers, V6 E-fan, 180 Tstat, Moes 85mm throttle body. Any suggestions?

Have you run a log? 99% of Hemis knock and will need tune adjustment to get rid of it. Thats most likely why you aren't feeling the gains.

OP, I am experiencing the same issues. Also on the 93 tune it pings like crazy. I have to run 93 Oct on the 91 tune. The canned shift points have much to be desired. The only plus I have noticed is on a downshift from a roll (25-35 mph) there is much more get up and go.

I will be logging tonight as soon as I get the chance to find some empty roads.

Why release a 93 tune if you know its going to knock and needs further tuning????

the 2010 ram and 2011 ram calibrations are exactly the same, and we have had no knock complaints about any 2010 Rams, thus its not like we assumed or knew it would knock....this is usually a case of poor quality fuel, try using the 91 tune instead.

Thanks

This doesn't help me with my problem. I can't use the 93 or 91 tune if I make the WOT shifts 6200rpms the truck will not shift at part throttle, I have to get to 6200 before it will shift.

Why are you raising the shift points that much? The Eagle falls flat on its face above like 5800rpms. Theres no gain to be had by raising the shift points with the stock motor and cam.

please make the adjustments and then export the backup and last tune written and post them up here.

I am having very similar issues with the shifting at part throttle.
These settings work fine as long as I leave the WOT RPM settings unchanged on the 93 tune.
Tried many combinations and eventually just modified the part throttle settings only, to get it to shift properly.
It seams like you can't have both (part & WOT) modified & still have proper shifting

we've found whats causing the shifting issue when adjusting the WOT shift points, and it has been corrected, and will be fixed inthe next release :)
