157db,this info is for your laptop alone, as for it not working on other users computers is... well really really rare!
Your laptop can work properly but you would have to bring it at least up to date for that operating system and it should work just as well as the unit it does work on now, which is also XP Pro.
As for the unrealistic issue about carrying the data on a stick...it is easier than carrying the laptop with you.
I have gotten my inTunes to work with a little work on the xp unit I loaded and you can too with a little enabling as I said earlier mirror your services, delete the entry on the device manager, reboot and try again.

PS I do not work for DS
Only one thing to say about my "Diablew" Tune!
" Just Friggin Wicked"
Now with TCM support...

I received my Intune today and plugged it into my 6 yr old (up to date) VISTA laptop and with a little TLC everything updated fine. Looong, but fine. Instructions could be a little clearer about a few things such as when the Intune reboots, you will get a pop up message saying disc drive could not be read, Please insert disk or somthing to that nature depending on what flavor windows your running. That's because when the Unit reboots it disconnects itself then reboots to write that update to the Intune, Let it work, don't touch anything. Then it will go into verify mode, again don't touch anything. When you first drag an update to the free space on the Intune drive (free space) you will get the rotating working symbol for what can be several minutes sometimes, that's why the diablo auto updater says this may take several minutes, BE PATIENT! I'm not calling anyone out but i've read most of the posts on here and sometimes I don't think people realize what they are doing. You are using a computer to update an instrument to program another computer. Some computer knowledge is recommended, if not you may consider backing away from the computer. Just saying. So far I like it. Usually the problems I see is not up to date operating systems, Usb 2.0 drivers need updating, service pak 3 not installed, or autorun as admin not enabled for starters. I have plugged the INTUNE into a 6 yr old (updated Dell laptop running vista now), a 9 year old work desktop running xp pro, and a 3 year old Gateway laptop running windows 7. The dell with vista took the most twaeking because it was not up to date, Auto updates were turned off and this computer belongs to my 12 yr old daughter. After updating everything it went well. :lamer:
