No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
I have a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, LS4. I just received my new Trinity and installed Diablo tune no DOD and saw a message that said TCM not supported... re-install original tune, something like that, can't remember exactly. I thought the updates covered the TCM? Can you help me out?
Ok, here's the message my Trinity says: "Support for TCM disabled. Restore ORG backup to enable Support".
Attached is the original backup in my Trinity. It showed "original" and "last installed", PCM files only. Didn't show any TCM files. I attached both. I've also attached a word document showing all my Trinity info. Hope this helps.
Serial: 6K3DJ54-1
Part: gm_can_gas
Version: v.1r09g
Trinity: 2.2.2.6

Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
try restoring, and read a new backup, see if it grabs the TCM.

Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
I restored the original backup. That's what I'm running now. How do I read new backup? Do I need to install a tune? I'm new at this.
Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
yes.. .after restoring the original backup, now connect to your car and select the performance tune to install again, and the tool will save the orignial backups in itself again...

Gotcha Lew! No problem...............I'll try it tomorrow night after work, and report back on this forum.
Mikel, I don't see how this differs from what I did before. I sent you everything the Trinity had before, unless I did something wrong. How is it gonna get a TCM file this time? Also, I've been woking with Vasilliv and sent him calibration ID stuff. Have you talked to him. Below is the calibration stuff I sent.

Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
Hi Mikel,
I just installed the "Diablotune no DOD" into my car (running 93 octane). It asked if I had automatic or manual. I picked automatic......... then Installed tune....
After installation, I connected the Trinity to my computer, opened DS Downloader:
*Get tune file from tool
*Select original or last tune......I selected "Original (PCM/TCM) backup from tool"
the only other option was "Last tune written to ECU (PCM/TCM)"
*Monitor said "Downloading PCM Backup"
*Trinity said "Transfer".....0-100%
*The only file that came up was "PCM 609256612155.grg.........it's attached.
What next?

Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
Hi Mikel,
I listed this in my original post. If you need different info, let me know where to get it. and i'll get it for you.
Serial: 6K3DJ54-1
Part: gm_can_gas
Version: v.1r09g
Trinity: 2.2.2.6
By the way, Vas just E-mailed me a crom and said to "give it a shot" (trinity_gm_can_gas-1t09ha_update.crom). He's not sure if it addresses my issue it just came out. Are you guys communicating and do you agree? I would really like one point of contact leading me in the right direction.
I'm new at this and hate to just start guessing and installing stuff without known facts. I purchased this Trinity based on the fact that the "2007 LS4 computer is now supported" with PCM and TCM tunes. Lew knows these motors and was hoping for a kick ass tune to wake my Grand Prix up. So far it seems like the bugs have never been worked out. Is there anyone out there running a TCM tune with a 2007-08 Grand Prix GXP or is it just me having these issues?
Please let me know my next step to take.

Mikel / Vas / Lew
Installed the latest update (Trinity_gm_can_gas-1t09ha.crom) It went in (loaded Diablotune no DOD). I was playing around with the Trinity and decided to go into "Diablotune No DOD" and found "modify tune". I selected it and found "Engine" or "Transmission". I selected transmission and found all kinds of modifications I could do. After selecting and playing around, it asked to save and install next time?, I cancelled out. It seems to me I have the options to modifiy transmission pressure, RPM, sport/Tow, converter, etc. This is what I wanted. If I would have changed a few things and saved and re-installed, do you think it would have worked?
Now I just want to make it clear. I have never searched around like this with the Trinity before , this is my first time playing inside different menu's and can't say it wasn't there before. All I was referencing to before is that the trinity will not back up stock TCM file. So anyways, I took the Trinity back in my house to see if I could download stock TCM file, and again the only thing there was the PCM file I sent you before.
Lew,
with all this info, are you still able to make me a custom tune for my LS4?
Terry

Re: No TCM support on Trinity, 2007 Pontiac GXP
Mikel / Vas,
Been working with Lew by E-mails, here's what we did over the weekend............Still no TCM.......
Lew wrote:
you have to actually install a TCM tune so that the tool saves the tcm backup file in itself... if you don't install a tcm tune at all, it won't save the tcm backup file in itself, so that's why it's not there when you try to export it...
Select one of the tcm tunes to install and let it install it man...

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "install one of the TCM tunes? I have options to modify transmission settings (page after page) but not really a specific "tune". Should I just start modifying trans settings? Each setting lets me change by a percentage, not really sure what to change. If i do change a few settings and go through the save and install later, will it prompt me to give it a file name and save it on the Trinity? and then do I have to load stock settings again and then re-download my new file, or just download immediately? I'm not sure what to do at this point, I need a little help. At this moment I'm running "Diablotune no DOD".
Let me know "step by step" how to extract that TCM file you need.

after you select the ecm/pcm tune - i.e. the 87 octane tune or diablo tune... does it ask you to select a TCM tune - either "firm shift" or "hard shift" tcm tune?? it should... and that's what I mean by select a TCM tune... select either the "firm shift" tcm tune, or the "hard shift" tune... not the modify stock tcm tune...
I wrote:
No, It doesn't ask me to select a TCM tune. It does ask if I want automatic or Manual. After I select the "Diablotune no DOD" thats it. Then it extracts original backup then loads the Diablotune. After the "Diablotune no DOD" is installed is when I can go into it and see "modify tune" and it's options. I've never seen an option to install a TCM tune, nor firm or hard shift.
Mikel / Vas,
Looks like I still need support for my tcm/tranny so I can have those choices.....

Latest updates workin with Lew........still no TCM?
Lew figured you guys need to know what we've been doing to help figure this out.
Lew wrote:
ok.. I talked to the guys at diablo again.... here's what I found out...if you are able to modify the tcm settings, then yes your tcm is supported... but they are not sure why you are not getting choices for the firm/hard shift tunes at this point... it's giong to take some time for them to investigate the issue and see if they can replicate it to figure out why it's diong that... how much time? I have no idea, as it depends on their current workload, what else they're already working on, etc..
So.. here's what I suggest you do... first, do like I mentioned last night and reinstall the tune to your car and see if it then gives you those tcm tune choices... if so, select one and install the tunes...if not, then go in and modify the tcm tune.. raise the shift pressure by +5%, save the change, then install the tunes....the tool SHOULD at that point save your tcm original backup and last tune written files to itself...if it DOES, then we will be good to go and I can just do the custom tcm tune like I was going to...
I wrote:
Thanks for checkin with Diablosport. I'll do exactly as you outlined, I'll let you know how it goes. Just a quick question. If I have to go the route of adjusting shift pressure.... it should ask me to save correct? and when I do will I be able to see the Trinity saving the stock TCM? or when I'm done, do I need to plug it into my PC and see if anything has been saved?
Lew wrote:
you should see on the trinity screen if it's saving the tcm backup, just like when it saved the ecm backup...not sure if it specifically asks you to save or not, I never adjusted mine via my trinity, I just did my own custom tune, heh.. after you make the change, there should be an ok or continue button or something like that, which should save it...
I wrote:
I re-installed the Diablosport no DOD tune as you told me to, and it didn't save any TCM parameters. So then I went into the tune, hit modify, picked trans, then I adjusted the shift pressure to 10% also changed shift RPM by 125. hit save then it asked me if I want to install it now, I said install, it did. After it was done the Performance Icon was blinking so I went into it and it said "support for TCM disabled, restore original backup to enable support" bla, bla, bla...........Same message I always get. So I plugged the Trinity into my computer hoping for a TCM file, nothing! only PCM file. I never saw anything on the Trinity screen saying "saving TCM backup" in both cases above. Let me know what to do next, also let Diablosport know what we did.
