Basic Bolt-Ons

Post by mdjohnston225 »

Re: 5.7L '12 Challenger with CAI and Catback (Calif. car)...have her setup with the 91 tune...seriously wondering how close she already is to optimum performance given the fact that she'll not be modded any further. Am unsure if a custom tune would really make an appreciable difference. I know that Diablosport worked very hard on the 91 tune for my application. If my personal "happy meter" is currently a strong 8 outof 10, will a custom tune really impress me much more? :?:

thats really tough to say, best bet might be to check with some of the guys on the forums who have custom tunes and get their thoughts.

Thanks

On the challenger you will see a bit more gain out of a custom tune vs. the canned tunes. I have a few custom tunes that I use in my 5.7 ram and its a big difference for me as to drivability, reliability and functionality. You can tweek smaller parameters after the custom tune is installed-- and the custom tune will be built for your car specificly rather then a one size fits all. Thus it will be based on where your driving what you have added in aftermarket parts--CAI, blower, exhaust etc... rather then just slap it on and go. I used TSS for mine and Mike over there did a good job on mine -- on my truck with my 87 perf tune I had custom done-- on a NON-MDS hemi in a truck that weighs 5580 with me in it fully fueled I can get around 20-21 out of it. My problem is I mess with the throttle booster a lot and just flat out haul ass. which brings me down to around 19 but still does better then the canned tunes.

Thanks for your input. Unlike some folks, my initial results with the tool have been positive. I actually have the Trinity but I mistakenly posted on the Predator section. Anyway, I went from the 87 tune to the 91 and noticed that the engine simply had a "bigger" feel. Seems as though my car and Diablosport are working well together. Would rather hang tight with the canned tune for now as I figure my lightly modded 5.7L is performing about as well as she can without doing something "exotic" mod-wise. HEMI Rams tend to love my girl! :D
