Diablotoona tuning

Post by johnny248 »

Hey guys,

I've been running the canned tunes on my '11 Hemi Ram. Someone from another forum recommended contacting Johan at diablotoona for a custom tune on my truck. I was just wondering what kind of improvements or gains can be found by getting some email tuning like this done? Hoping to hear from some guys who have had experience with his tunes. My truck is basically stock. Has a Volant intake on it which I'm sure doesn't do very much, but I like the sound and the Donaldson filter. It also has a 190 stat and clutch fan removed. My truck seems to run well on the canned 87 tunes with 93 fuel but I gets a lot of ST and LT knock when using anything above the 87 tunes. Ive read that they can tune the knocking out and gain some more performance over the canned tunes, but I was looking to see exactly how much can be expected in doing so.

Thanks!

First off, if you are getting knock then you should get a catch can. Knock kills performance and fuel economy. How many miles do you have? Have you tried anything to combat the knock?

If your getting LT knock then I would first work on fixing it before getting a custom tune.

Feel free to PM me if you want to work on eliminating it.

Pm sent. I don't know what it is about these forums, but the lack or activity and response is strange. With all of the people running these tuners, you would think there would be more response. Unless of course people just don't care to help.

I think they have Johan locked up in a closet someplace. Or maybe they're working him too hard. He doesn't come on here very often anymore.

Hey sorry for the late response. I dont know what the deal is with this crappy PM system but my PM was stuck in the outbox.

If you have a catch can and are always using 93 octane then there is a chance that it might be false knock. Like I said before you want to get this sorted out before getting a custom tune so that your tuner can get the most out of your vehicle.

Since you have new plugs the next step I would recommend is a full fuel system cleaner. Redline SI-1 is my preference but Techron Concentrate has also proven to be good. I would not recommend any others as these two are the best performing.

Have you tested out different brands of gas in your area? I live in DFW and my knock numbers even on 93 octane varied by gas station. I found that in my area Chevron 93 consistently gave me less knock so you might want to check out a few different brands to see which is the best quality in your area. Also, its getting close to winter and winter gas will increase knock.
