U7192 is not connecting to PC

First let me qualify my computer abilities: I know just enough to be dangerous! I mean I am not completely ignorant but I am not a programmer either. Here's what I have: A used "unmarried" U7192 Predator version V.9r10 . I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with 32 bit rate. The unit came with a USB/serial 9 pin cable which had been opened and a mini CD included. I've been trying all morning to get the driver downloaded but the Predator still won't connect. The DSDownloader window shows the unit as searching the Com ports at the bottom of the page and goes no further. I went through the troubleshooting thread here and can't understand what my problem is. I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything about a dozen times restarting the computer after each round. In the device screen in the control panel it shows something connected to that port. There is no name on the cable or the CD as far as brand goes. Just some Chinese printing. Do you think I have a bad cable?

Here's an update: I don't know how much help this will be to others having this issue but.....I went into driver troubleshooting by double clicking the device icon in the Control Panel and Device Manager. I was asked if I wanted Windows to check for a proper driver for the device and I thought what have I got to lose after hours of trying other things. Low and behold after about 10 minutes of searching it came up with the proper driver on Com 3 and I looked at the tool and it said tool found!!!! Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I updated the tool and out to the truck I go. Best of luck guys!
