Shifting Issues (formerly r20 Shifting Issues)
Moderator: mikel
I'm not sure about any 2-3 shift issues. I started this thread for the downshift issues when you stomp the gas while cruising. See post #1. My shifts are pretty darn good starting from a dead stop and working through the gears at WOT. However, it seems to not be as quick when stomping it from a dead stop, and that doesn't really have anything to do with shifting since I'm in 1st gear already.
Sorry, that was confusing. My shifts seem pretty good from a dead stop at WOT at (5800 and 6100 RPM). What I was referring to not being as good was the quickness off of the line. The car doesn't seem as quick for a second or two, prior to shifting into second. The car seems strong in the upper RPM ranges, but not nearly as strong in the lower like it used to with previous versions. I confused the issue because I was talking about shifting and power in the same post, kind of like I just did now.

Whenever I turn left and lightly accelerate until it shifts to 2nd gear, then if I tramp the pedal, she will kick down to first and I ALWAYS hit the rev limiter before she shifts to 2nd gear. This is with the factory tune. I can reproduce this time and time again. Sort of a software bug in the factory programming. Put your car back to stock and try it out for yourself. Might be that the pred isn't really touching this part of the program and the leftover factory code is to blame? I dunno, just grasping here...LOL

I did get mine out today for a very short time. I did not do a run but when I got on the 4 lane divided I got on it some and I noticed it had a whine as it reached the 1-2 shift point. It shifted good and sounded like a super charger. Any one heard that before. If it is normal, I like it. I trird it again when I turned around but harder. When it approached near red line 1-2 shift, It really whined and shifted really good. Broke them loose. Cold pavement and F1s tend to do that. 45* out today and dry.
The whine sounds cool. I am not sure what it was though.

Ok, how do I get my stock tune from the Predator onto my computer, so that I can send it to you in an e-mail? I'm willing to give this a try. Just confirm that it won't actually affect or change my original back up. Rather, you will make changes to my original back up and send it to me as a "custom" tune?johan wrote:It appears as this is pretty isolated to 06's 5.7L , as 05, 07 and 08 shift firmness setting are all the same, the 06 is a little different.
If anyone with this issue wants to e-mail me his/hers original backup or tuned file I can make a change in it so you could verify that it is back to r18 "feel"

Here is a thought for consideration. There is a tranny flash that the
srt engineers developed.
The SRT8 does rev faster than the tach and much faster than bumping the stick to the next gear. It could be easily over reved if the tranny does not fill the pump pressure for the upshift fast enough to keep up.
Actually I think that may be the "shift problem" being described. The SRT engineers did make a flash for the SRT8 to cause an earlier fill to quicken the shift time, but it takes some control away from auto "stick" mode causing it to upshift before hitting rev limiter even if the operator forgets to shift. It also quickens the 1-2 shift in "auto mode" too.

A lot of BS comes from Diablo and no good straight answers. Somebody there should run for office because they have all the run around down pat. They don't want to admit they got some problems and they don't have a clue why.jackiert wrote:Pulling fuse #11 didn't help. I'm sure DiabloSport is as frustrated as many of us are, assuming they care to rectify this issue and their track record shows that they do. For whatever reason, r20 isn't as good in the shifting dept as earlier versions, nor is it as quick off the line, IMO. It just won't shift as crisp nor will it correctly downshift when you stomp the pedal. It just holds the gear and tries to make the best of it, rather than downshifting to right gear.
I have faith that this will be fixed in the near future. **fingers crossed while kneeling in a prayer position**
You are not getting any run around.
Find me ONE person that feels that we have not done everything in our power to solve any and all reported issues. Its not going to happen.
Now, keep spamming our forum with your negative posts and it will certainly not help your cause with me. Johan and I have discussed YOUR particular issue on at least 3 different occasions today, because believe it or not, we have a tremendous amount of pride in what we do, and want EVERYONE to be happy with our product.
You openly accused me in an email of 'just guessing' at the tunes for the 08, so you obviously have NO CLUE about tuning or programming, so in this case you really need to step back and let us CONTINUE to look into this.
Thank you.
You need to go back and read YOUR OWN THREAD that YOU STARTED on lxforums about these SAME PROBLEMS back in OCTOBER or November and look at the year and model cars having these SAME PROBLEMS. This is March!! These are the SAME PROBLEMS getting the SAME ANSWERS. Go look!! Do you forget what you even say? There was NEVER A ANSWER POSTED concluding that thread you started and you and tuna whats his name keep saying the problems are rare and isolated. That is pure BS and anyone that takes the time to read all of your feedback on all the forums can see that. They can also see where you have LOST YOUR TEMPER BEFORE when someone has called your hand at your BS. They can also read where YOU SAY YOU GUESS something might work but you don't know why it would but it did on 2 cars. All you are doing is keeping the BS going and the sales going for as long as you can and I am sure you do have some cars that the tuner works fine on but there is also a lot of cars that it doesn't work right on and that is where your BS comes in to get the tuner past the 30 days satisfaction. You strike me as a guy that don't know, but you don't know, that you don't know.
Johan, I emailed you the following and wanted to share it with everyone here to keep them up to speed as it seems we may be getting closer to a solution, maybe:
Alright, you're not going to like what I have to say, because it is puzzling to me as well. I can only run 91 octane in CA and you first sent me a 93CAI r20 with r18 shift feel. That was pretty darn good and seemed to be everything I was looking for in the shifting department. However, when you sent me the 91CAI tune the shifting took a crap again (compared to the other one). Aside from "feel," the 93CAI version you had sent actually downshifts. Here's what happens:
In the 93CAI version you had sent, when cruising in D at around 50MPH, you "manually" downshift using the autostick and the car actually downshifts to 2nd gear. In the 91CAI version, do the same thing and the car "downshifts" into 4th gear (at 50MPH!), actually not downshifting at all. This is typical of the canned 91CAI tune in r20 and that's why so many are having trouble with it.
If you can somehow get the car to behave, as it does in the 93CAI version you sent me, in the 91CAI version you sent, I think we'd be closer to what we are looking for. I attached and renamed both for your reference and comparison. Thanks.

Another great answer from Diablo! I am sure your quick response has helped everyone with their tuner problems. Sometimes it takes days to get a response. You want to bet the price of a tuner on those IP adresses for anyone that is not happy?johnc wrote:Funny that you say that while posting under two forum accounts from the same IP address.
