No codes - but Catalyst & 02 not ready for emissions

Post by Macgyver »

I have a 2006 300 C SRT8 I bought with some mods from a dealer in 2015 in Florida (no emissions testing) and it came with a diablo sport trinity t1000 tuner. I am now in Georgia where they do smog test and got a engine light p0038 that I fixed by replacing bank 1 sensor 2 (heated 02) and did a reset and it went away. I am using torque pro now to monitor when the tests are complete in order to go to emissions. After 150 miles the 02 sensors and the catalyst do not complete. The heated 02 did complete and that completed within just a few miles of driving.

I see the tuner has the original tune backed up so thinking of just loading it up. As of right now just not sure if the 02s were bypassed/disabled in some areas in some custom tune that is currently loaded and I don't know how to check that. Can I bring it into some app from diablo to check?

When I run test I get the following and it's confusing. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I am not sure if the car is cammed or not. If it is then it's a very mild cam - so worried about loading the original tune onto the car with the diablo sport t1000 tuner.

The car at idle way a week or two after I got her and no codes yet. The p0038 code didnt show up until 2 years later, but like I said replaced and the code never came back.

I restored the factory tune not realizing I would it delete the custom tune off of the tuner.

If I call and give the vin would a tuner called diablotoona have a copy? The car came with the tuner and has some mods that needed the tune that was on it.

Other question....if my tune was pulled of my car with another kind of tuner can that tune be placed back on my car with the trinity t1000 if the person emails the tune to me?

Strange that the custom tune was deleted when you restored the factory (backup) tune. If you go to the Advanced Tune menu the custom tune should be listed (assuming the custom tune was loaded from your device & not a different device ... or the previous owner didn't delete the custom tune from your device).
The previous owner may still have the custom tune file to email to you. If not, you can contact diablotoona to see if they have the custom tune file to email to you. If all these options fail then I guess you will need to purchase a new custom tune. You can use diablotoona or one of the other email custom tuners. I use HemiFever Tuning.

I don't know when your device was last updated. Download the Ignition Updater and use it to update the software on your device.

The custom tune section is completely gone now. I had trouble connecting the unit to my pc. Today after upgrading windows 10 to the lastest windows 10 version microsoft released in October 2018 I can now connect my trinity t1000. The only tunes it sees is the factory and the cai perf tune I modified.

Funny as the size of the original backed up tune is 55kb and the modified perf tune is 5kb. I would think they should be around the same size if not more on the modified version.

If I had patience in fixing my connection issue I would have the custom tune saved. I will have to pay my brother 100.00 dollars to get credits for his HP Tuner to write it back to my car.

Now that I have the trinity connection issue resolved I should not have issues next time around for emissions.

I have restored the factory backup tune to my car multiple times (for dealership service) and the custom tune was always available afterwards (not deleted). I don't have any idea why your custom tune was deleted. My factory backup file is 77KB and the custom tune is 71KB. Not exact same size but close.

its normal for t1000 to delete the custom tune when you restore.
i1/i2/i3/T2 keep the custom tunes.

That explains it. I have a i2 but I always keep a copy of the ".drg" tune files on my computer as a backup copy ... just in case.
