Calculations for Gas mileage (spreadsheet included)
Well let me just say that I think I found my ideal tune. With the 93 tune, even with the TQM turned "ON" (all 3) it still moves much better than before, especially Mid-Range. I spanked a few imports on the way home yesterday. Yeah, I am happy.
In reply to ches111: Only problem with me tunring the first two parameters "OFF" on the TQM is, (when I did this before), it did the "hard shift" thing when you stomped the pedal and would not stop til you shut the truck off. I had them make me a tune for it to fix the problem but I just didn't know if I should bother. (It took me 2 weeks of screwing with shift timing, pressures, and RPM vs TP to get it to drive smoothly again even with the tune).

nice little app....
One thought. The file I have (not sure it is the latest), you have ONE mpg field. Running E85, one can expect much lower gas mileage on average due to the heating value hit of the fuel.
May want an E85 mpg field. Kinda need both for a "fair" look at $/mile...

I am figuring using the linked/uploaded spreadsheet on a loss of about 4 MPG by going to E85.
And came to the conclusion that with it being a full $1.00 per gallon cheaper here ..
That I will NOT come out ahead.
I am comparing 87 tune with actual gas mileage and a loss of 4 MPG going to the E85 which I understand would pretty much be the norm.
87 OCT = $3,408.228 per year
E85 101 - 105 OCT = $3,254.237 per year
This is a negligible return on what could be a costly investment. Since I do not have a flex vehicle.
So for me E85 = not worth it.

How the heck are you getting 20.5 average? I'd have to install an electric shock to my seat to light me up every time my pedal hits the floor06MonteSS wrote:sure, why not...
it worked ok for me though, since my average has been 20.5... hehe....

93 octane tune with TQM reduced all the way (thank you again johan!) and all the other shifting parameters left stock (except pressures). Also have injector slope bumped up (-2) to balance my LTFTs.
I average 19 on the first half of my tank and 20 on the second half to give me (duh) 19.5 average economy. This is traveling the speed limit everywhere. Also about 70% open highway traveling and city driving was very grandma-ish. But that wasn't bad considering its all full size 4X4!

What if I modified a methanol injection kit to run 100% of the time and adjust the flow rates with a vacuum switch? Use one of those kits that uses common wiper fluid. Hypothetically I could modify a 93 tune and use the methanol injection while running run 89 octane.
I dunno just my crazy idea for the day. Ha ha.
