HELP...think i need DSdownloader 1.7.4.0

Post by carter242000 »

I cant get my laptop to locate my U7146 for my 1999 mustang gt. i have the serial to usb prolific cable and driver disk from diablosport and it still doesnt work. I have read everything i can find and think that i need the older version of dsdownloader not the 1.9.0.0 that i currently have. Can you please email me the link to the 1.7.4.0 downloader since i cannot find it anywhere? thank you very much for your help.

I had the exact same problem. Had to use the old DSDL to load the crom file, then I could connect using the new versions.

http://www.diablosport.com/downloads/pr ... .7.4.0.exe

Let me know if that works for you. If it does, then it appears I have an issue with 1.9.9.0 with that part # and revision #.

u7158(8r11) = i have a problem with the new version aswell, it will auto conect(pred flashes " remotly connected or controled " its verry breif (maybe a second) and then it returns to the normal menu screen.

So it has connected, however when it tries to download the orginal file it loses the connection. I will try some more this weekend, but the old version has always worked to upload my custom files to the pred.

Please do try to get the new one to work with your 7158, then try the old one and see if it works.

well i tried the new version for hours and no worky, it will connect and then disconnect on auto (disconnects when i try to get the original back up from the predator), in legacy it wont even try to control the pred. I even unistalled and reinstalled my usb-serial drivers = same thing. I also reinstalled the original tune in the truck and then reinstalled the pully tune, still no worky.

So then i installed the 1.7.4.0, the pred would start to communicate when i selected get tune from predator. The screen on the predator would change to transfering (only reach 3%) and the dsdownloader would show a transfer screen (which would not transfere) and then they both would time out.

However with that said i have no problem sending the custom tune to the predator. I can not send multiple tunes as it requires the original back up which i can not get from the predator.

As a side note if i try " read extra tune " on the predator i get "unable to get vid.cuts maybe wrong!. continue?"

I have never tried the read extra tune or even upload the orignal tune from day one, as my custom tune i recieved came from the cal id, not from the original back up.

I'm thinking the reason im having a problem with the new version is because you have to have the orginal back up on that program before you can even try to send a custom tune to the predator, aswell perhaps this is why the ds 1.7.4.0 won't save the orginal back up or read extra tune.

I wonder if something is amiss with my predator as it will write the pully tune and custom tunes with no problem, but i cant upload those tunes from it to my pc, only download to it from my pc.

btw buad rate was always set at 115200 on both pred and ds.

I will have to play with a lightning tool on Monday to figure this out.

Thank you for the additional info.

With 1.9.9.0 it should connect briefly and then disconnect. It is just querying the Predator for what interfaces are supported.

You should be using (and be able to use) Auto Connect mode, not Legacy mode, for your Predator.

After DSDL connects and switches to the Express Tune Mode tab, you should then check the Compressed Send checkbox. This was a change from 8r10 to 8r11, in that 8r11 supports the compression. Would you test this for me with 1.9.9.0?

After connecting, if you go to the Help menu and select Predator Info you should have something like this:

Auto Connect is ENABLED.
Legacy Connect is DISABLED.
A Predator was detected on COM1 at 115200 baud.
XML RPC commands are AVAILABLE.
XML RPC protocol version is 1.40
Serial number = '117494406'.
Part number = 'u7158'.
CROM version = 'lightning-8r11 06/28/2007 06:42:55 PM'.
Vehicle VIN = ''.
Vehicle Calibration = ''.
Origional backup NOT saved.
Tool is Married FALSE.
Single user tool FALSE.
Using Class2 Protocol FALSE.
Calibration Updates are NOT supported.
A Calibration Update is NOT required.
XML RPC will NOT be used for FRG transfers.
Tune compression is MANUAL.

If you have something different, would you post it in a reply here?

Also, another thing to consider... when using the newer DS Downloader with 8r11, you no longer need to use the Custom Tune menu items for importing tunes or exporting the original backup. You just leave the Predator on the main menu screen and you only need to take action on DS Downloader.

Let me know if this was the issue.

I only tried to get the predator to do something when nothing else would work. I always made sure it was at the main menu and even tried unplugging and pluging back in to the dlc. (im getting a power adaptor to make it things easier)

The auto connect worked fine, the pred just would not transfer, the correct com and baud rate came up automatically, the program would time out and the predator screen never changed from the menu display.

I built a Predator using the same hardware and CROM version that you have, and I was able to transfer tunes just fine. Even if the compression setting is incorrect it will still transfer the file, so that has nothing to do with the problem you are seeing.

I am somewhat at a loss. Would you connect to the Predator and then cut and paste me the Predator Info contents?

well i just got home so i actually updated my dsdownloader to 1.9.9.4 and it worked.
It
would communicate and it downloaded my original backup, however when i try to send multiple tunes, the predator does not show custom on its screen, it still only shows performance tune. I will keep trying and see if i can figure it out.

Thanks for all the help
