Some weird syptoms with the 200 HP tune.

Post by CG98x »

I received the 200 HP tune last week from johan(thanks BTW) and I experienced some weird things before the truck completely warmed up. I fired it up and engine temp was about 70'F. i took off gently then I went to give a little more throttle and it timing rattled bad then the truck started cutting out. It continued to do this at 1700 rpms and over until the temp hit 150'F then immediately it quieted down and didn't cut out any more. Once warmed up the truck ran great and I like the new tune. I'm wondering if the truck cuts power if it senses too much rattle or what? When it stopped making the noise it stopped very suddenly and everything was good. Also I like the egt's with this tune they run the same as regular extreme or cooler and there's a little more boost and power.
TIA

The same thing happened with my 200hp tune, all the same as you described, it seems to be a timing issue. johnn has updated the tune and there is still an issue with the timing but at around 20mph when throttling up. But like you say when everything is warm the tune is pretty awesome. I actually got added 4mph to the top speed.

I have got mine to go all the way to 115 a couple times with the diablo stacked with my Juice. I guess it fools it long enough to let it go. I just got this last week so I would assume it is the newer version. However it does run very good when it is warmed up.

I only get a rattle when im crusing around 55...then ease into it. When it lugs a little it will rattle for a second then go away. It also pours out black smoke  . Im really happy with the egts tho. About a 100 deg. cooler than my superchip flash paq. And my idile is a little shakey sometimes.

What mods do you guys have? Just curious because you all say your motor is cutting out. Mine did it once when i first installed it and hasnt done it again. I have a very extensive list of mods like fass 200, A5K, 140inj, dualcp3, cam/4ksprings, full billet race tranny by ATS, and quite a few others. The reason i ask is that i should not at all have run my rail dry even for that split second!!! I have had boxes that i think hit harder on the low end and didnt even come close to running me dry, but pretty sure all the did was confuse the pps/apps and not add more fuel. I did however change my filters yesterday and havent run dry yet and i am very confident i wont. Anyhow what you guys are describing sounds like you are not capable of flowing the wanted amounts of fuel to the engine. And if thats the case you probably arent able to keep fuels pressure high enough throughout the curve to use the tune the way it is designed. That may be where the rattle comes in, because i have still not been able to define the timing rattle neither has the diesel shop. Besides its not a good idea to be flat footin until at least 150'F+, that is why you are hearing the noise. Johan/Mike plz chime in and explain since you are the pro's here.

I do not have any fuel mods on my truck. I have intake, intake manifold, 5" turbo back magna flow exh, and a egt gauge. But i havent changed my fuel filter in a while. I actually havent ever changed it. I bought my truck new 13,500 miles ago.

Mine did not have any trouble when it is warmed up under hard acceleration it was only when it was cold and I tried to give it more than a little throttle. Once it is warm all is well and she runs hard and smooth all the way up to redline. BTW I've got a FASS 95, K&N intake, 5 " exhaust and a HTB2 62-14, also I have a juice hooked up but I don't stack it with the 200 hp tune due to lots of rattle when I tried it.

I get alot of rattle when i stack mine with the power puck. So i havent been running it. But i just raced a 05 dodge cummins with the tst performace box and some other mods. And i smoked him. From start to finsh. And once we hit 60...i had 2 trucks on him and leaving him faaast. Diablo....i congradulate you....you have made one badd ass programmer. :D

CG98X, You would be amazed at the difference it makes if you upgrade your cp3 pump even a modded single should make a huge difference. Before i got my dual i was having some problems with the popping. What kind of line pressure are you getting before the cp3? I believe they cranked me to like 40-50psi. You should look into the puck as a stack. I can be running about 70mph at 10-13lbs of boost and flip the puck to high and instantly gain 4-6psi. Not to mention i have been averaging nearly 21mpg. With my mods i almost argued with myself. You really notice the difference with the puck when you are running the non stack tunes. And as i said on here and dtr, i have never had a CEL since running this way. But i typically leave the puck off unless i really wanna make someone mad.......

I worked with Ropnjessi on the cold start issue and we did not get anywhere without adverse results, so for the time being i would just recommend letting the truck warm up before raggin on it, which you should do regardless.
