Economy tune for 7r19cz update??

Post by jermort »

Using the 7170 (7r19cz) on my 2000 7.3 and quite happy.

With the outrageous prices of Diesel and no end in sight, any hopes for an economy tune that really works?? I absolutely hate all the babying I have to do just to get 18mpg.

Common guys, you're all geniuses, we know! How about an economy tune??

Check the thread of my post about mileage on my 2001 Ex 7.3. I have cold air intake, 4" turbo-back exhaust, gauges, etc. I have the 7r19dz revision, tho; not the cz. I am losing mpg with the 60 HP and 100 HP tunes over stock. DS answer is "wait for update; should be next week". That is this week! And truth be told, my confidence level isn't very high that will happen!! Father's Day is around the corner; may be time for a DP-Tuner!!

hey dsquared, thanks for the reply. I tried for about 2 hours last night trying to get my Vista computer to talk to the Predator! Worked fine when I was running XP, now no joy.

I was going to load the dz tune, guess i'll wait or look for something that will let me tune for economy. With my baby being my daily driver, fuel is killing me right now!!

Common DS, need some help here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, glad the info was of assistance. If you check some of the data viewer and DS downloader threads, there is a lot of info on Vista fixes. That is why I still have XP :D And to be fair to the people here, I am certain they are trying to fix this issue. I have been monitoring this forum since I got my Predator with the Ex in November, and it seems there are a lot of folks that have been waiting a very long time for fixes on the 99-03 7.3 PSD! Mike W stated there would be an update in early May, but........

Guys, feel free to try this revision, and let me know how the mileage works out.
Use the 85 HP tune for best mileage...

It should work, we have several Vista machines up and running here in the office...
Biggest issue is finding a USB cable/driver that is Vista compatible....

Mike:

Should I be using the 85hp tune on 7r19dz for best mileage? And, if needed, where can I download the 7r19dz if needed again?

Thanks in advance!

Mike, actually, I'm using a serial cable. My setup worked fine when the pc was running XP, but since I upgraded to Vista, no joy. I am going to run the hyperterm test when I get home this eve. Could be firewall issue, haven't looked at that yet.

Will keep you posted on my progress, thanks again.

No, generally best mileage in the 7r19 is in the 65 tune.

In the new 9rxx revisions, we were able to see the same mileage gains we had in the 65 tunes, but with better power output, so we combined the two to a performance/economy tune.

Thanks

This is where I get confused. You, and several other people, talk about a 65hp tune. Mine has a 60hp, 85hp, and 100hp, along with the tow and altitude tunes. But NO 65hp!!

What are the new tunes on the crom you sent? I'm at work, and I won't get around to playing with this until later this afternoon.

Thanks!

OK, well, 60, 65, same difference...most of the diesel tools have a 65, so I tend to refer to it that way, my bad.
The 60 hp tune (usually referred to as economy tune as well) is designed as the best bet for mileage improvements in the diesel applications.

Thanks

Heart attack!!!!!

Post by jermort »

Well, Mikey, here's the latest.

Had to run the DSDL in legacy mode, had to change DEP in performance options to ALL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES, EXCEPT......

Ran the DL and FAILED at packet 8195 (TWICE). Predator reported 'Received more data than expected'. Then, 'File missing or Corrupted' - wouldn't boot.

I was able to load the DZ tune, so I have recovered the Predator, but not the cz tune.

suggestions??????

Mike,

Can I get this crom file sent to me as well to try. Need better mileage. Also, you say the best mileage is on the 60hp, but I have tried them all, and I get the best on 100hp.

Mike:

I tried uploading the crom, and mine froze at packet 8195 also! I was doing in the vehicle with my laptop, Windows XP SP3.

Should I have called while I was doing it? If so, respond right away! I can be back and doing this in 10 minutes!
