F250 Tow Haul button use with TOW tune

Post by tallguy »

DP U7164...R903..2003FordF250 bought two wks ago.
So do I use the tow tune when pulling a RV trl or use 65HP economy?
Also what do I do with the TOW HAUL button on my gear shift? And is using the 65HP economy tune for towing a 6000# trl bad. And what is an "incline" as mentioned in the manual?

6k with 65hp tune will get your egt's to hot on an incline (hill).
Got egt gauge?
Pushing the tow button on your shifter locks it out of overdrive, 3rd is the highest it will shift.

I've got 4" turbo-back exhaust and AEM intake on my 99 7.3 and I couldn't pull that weight up any kind of a hill without egt's getting to high.

Tow Haul isn't OD cancel. Its a separate pattern of shift strategies. Also alters how the converter strategy operates. Tow/Haul holds gears longer to get and keep heavy weight moving. Also aggresively uses trans braking.

Example

Non towhaul 2-3 upshit pedal point and mph

1020 33.5
900 33.5
700 31.5
500 28.5
300 18.5
250 16.5
150 13.5
150 13.5
150 13.5
0 13.5

Tow/Haul 2-3 shift pedal point and mph

1020 33
1020 33
900 33
700 31.5
500 28.5
400 25.5
300 22
200 22
150 22
0 22

Note how it holds out to 22mph in the lighter throttle mode instead of upshifting.
