91 Octane at high altitude

Post by Whiterock1 »

I just bought a U7194 for my '06 Corvette with Bullets and a K&N Aircharger. I also have opened up the fan shroud to get only outside air to the Aircharger. We are at 6700' and 91 octane is used here (85 instead of 87 for regular) due to the altitude. I assume I can use the 93 Octane tune--highest settings for spark advance, because of the altitude. Both the Vette and my previous Ram Air LS1 Trans Am ran/run fine on the 91. I bought it to get the best performance, so definitely want to go with the most aggressive set up.

thanx!

The tune is setup for 93/91 octane so you should be fine, you might run a little richer at altitude as fueling is the main thing that gets affected by elevation.

OK,

So maybe I should try 93 oct tune here in Reno, NV at 5000' elevation?? Our highest available is also 91 at the gas station...

I would not use the 93 octane tune with 91 octane, it WILL rattle and cause a decrease in performance.

Are you saying that the 93 octane tune with 91 octane gas is ok in the Vette, but not in the GP?

Yes, because in the GXP we increase timing in the 93 octane tune over stock. The 06-07 corvettes we do not increase timing in the tunes.
