Why is TCM support so important?

Post by sharkzf6 »

See the above question. I am not asking what TCM tweaking is, I am asking why it is so important to you (anyone reading this) specifically. What do you think you will be able to do with it? I know a few tuners out there making incredible claims about improving shifting in the paddle shifted Corvette. Is this what you're after? Can you itemize the changes you expect to be able to make given that TCM support is ultimately released? DiabloSport crew, can YOU identify what we will be able to do with this support if/when it is released? All these questions just popped up in my head after reading several threads regarding this very sensitive issue. Please contribute to this thread for the benefit of all interested. Thanks.

I know man, I guess if they want TCM support that bad, install a massive shift kit, that will be tailored to their needs as far as their shifting needs. :-)

we will be able to adjust the line pressure and how quick/firm the shifts are, thus increasing performance and actually prolonging the life of the tranny...

Lew, I love the implications of what you're saying here. What concerns me is why it is taking so long? I was under the impression the functionality you describe above already exists in many models of Predators for other vehicles. This implies the basic operations already exist in-house leaving only the details of individual templates for individual vehicles. Add to this the fact tuners who use programs like HPTuner have been performing this tweak for nearly a year now. Something about this whole TCM thing at DiabloSport just doesn't seem right. It would not be unreasonable to suspect there is more to this story than DiabloSport is saying ...

Mikel, if you send me the details I will be happy to print them out, put the printed pages into a container of some sort, and bury it up north somewhere near the Groom Lake area (I live in Las Vegs) ... just a thought ...

I am asking why it is so important to you?
The factory setup is marginal, we don`t all drive the same. We don`t all live in the same terrain. We don`t all live at the same altitude and so on.
What do you think you will be able to do with it?

Calibrate and fine tune my/your specific transmission. (Pressure, Shift speed, Shift firmness and TCC activation)

Canned Transmission Tunes to provide a completely different driving experience as needed:
Towing mode
Economy mode
Sport/Track mode
Dyno mode.
Winter mode

Data logging capability

Sensor Calibration Wizard

Gearing calculation section

Can you itemize the changes you expect to be able to make given that TCM support is ultimately released?

Line pressure in every gear

Shift speed for every gear based on desired acceleration and speed

Shift firmness for every gear based on desired acceleration and speed

The activation of the torque converter based on desired acceleration and speed

Trigger Levels & Filter Values.

Load vs. Line Pressure.

Upshift/Downshift

TCC lockup per gear.

Torque converter lockup rate control

TCC lockup ending duty cycle

TCC Lockup Parameters.

TCC Lockup/Unlock.

Temperature vs. line pressure trim, raise or lower the line pressure in extreme climates

Temperature vs. Upshift/Downshift point trim, allows the user to raise or lower the
Shift points in extreme climates.

Vehicle Slip Parameters.(lockout 1st gear in winter weather)

Wide Open Throttle (WOT) Settings

Guys, the new 6L trannies from GM have over 800 parameters to adjust. It will take a bit to get this to work in a handheld.

If you can't or refuse to keep up with the manufacturers' tech changes (specifically referring to the GM move to ECM/TCM vice PCM here/for the moment) and you're promoting your product as an "improvement", just exactly how long do you expect you're gonna be able to sucker your customers into believing you're cutting edge, value added? When is support for the 6-spd going to be available? Or is that just a bad joke?
