There is no true PCM only test procedure for an end user or mechanic. There is usually a diagnostic procedure for any or all symptoms/codes that may be present in the vehicle. If diagnostics is followed to a T and the symptoms still exist then that is usually when changing the PCM is recommended...

Died on you going down the road, sounds like i wiring issue to me, did you check that out??
A pcm is highly unlikely to just die on you while operating the vehicle.

Not sure why but if it is an electrical short then the whole system might be down depending on where the short is.

If there is any type of electrical issue that doesn't allow the PCM to have sufficient power or ground the Predator will not be able to communicate to it properly or even recognize it at all.

"Throwing" a PCM at it is just a guess if you don't do any diagnostics like checking all the basics, fuses, grounds etc...

Sounds like the PCM simply failed.
It is rare, but can happen.
