Added exhaust to C6 Vette - popping now, am I too lean?
Added exhaust to C6 Vette - popping now, am I too lean?
Hi Guys,
I changed my exhaust on my 08 C6 vette to a Corsa Sport exhaust. On decelaration the darn thing pops like crazy - I don't care for that...
I have the predator tune and my injector slope is set to -7 to get my LTFTs between -2 and 0.
Should I try to make it run a bit richer? In motorcycles popping is normally too lean of a condition....
I'm assuming I'd be increasing the percentage to the injector slope to make it run richer right? Going positive on the slope so like from -7 to -5...
Thanks!

RE: Added exhaust to C6 Vette - popping now, am I too lean?
for injector slope, more negative is richer, more positive is leaner...
so to make it richer, you'd have to go more negative, not more positive up +2 to -5%.
you'd need to go down -2 to make it -9% instead of -7...
before just blindly changing it tho, you should do a new steady driving/cruising log to see where your ltft's are at since the exhaust install....
and btw, that popping is a known thing with the vettes, have done a couple tunes for other 08 vette guys with aftermarket exhaust, and they have the same issue....
I was able to make it not as noticable/loud, but it still pops nonetheless.... it's the nature of the beast...

Right right - I screwed that up. Go negative for richer...
I'll log the LTFT again and go from there. The guys you helped with the vettes did you stay in the -2 to 0 on LTFT - should I shoot closer to one end versus the other; richer end?
Thanks - unreal how fast you answered that on a Saturday night

Doubtful if you will be able to get rid of the popping with a Predator. I had the Corsa Sport on my 05 GTO, and it popped like crazy. An exhaust that is more free-flowing with straight-thru mufflers, as the Corsa is, will pop more. I have Flowmaster mufflers, which are chambered, and an H-Pipe, and it still pops. The stock exhuast even popped from time to time. In order to decrease it, the DFCO table needs to be adjusted. Even then, you won't get rid of it completely. In general, the more you free up the exhaust, the more it's gonna pop. It's just the nature of the beast....deal with it.

Re: popping
Ummm.....it's ALL about the tune. An X-Pipe will not decrease the popping.......if anything it will increase it. Read my other post above.espdixie wrote:The popping has nothing at all to do with the tune. Get the Corsa X pipe and it will be gone. Been there done that

RE: Re: popping
correct ^^^^^
the ways to correct for that popping via the tune are, you can either increase the part-throttle timing so that it burns that fuel more that's causing the pop, or you can adjust the Decel Fuel Cut Off settings....
adjusting either one, or even both, will help to eliminate that popping...

We have some nice tricks to eliminate the popping, without touching DFCO (kills mileage).06GTO6.0 wrote:Doubtful if you will be able to get rid of the popping with a Predator. The only "trick" I would be interested in would be getting the Traction Control to actually work.mikel wrote:We have some nice tricks to eliminate the popping, without touching DFCO (kills mileage).06GTO6.0 wrote:Doubtful if you will be able to get rid of the popping with a Predator. Re: pop
You're talking about an LS1 Vette I'm assuming (Not a Z06), compared to an 08 LS3 Vette.........different animals dude.espdixie wrote:With Corsa Indy's on my 02 Vette it popped like crazy. The Corsa X pipe cured it totally. There was NO tune involved. Believe what you will and a tune might help....but with a stock tune it works for me.

RE: Re: pop
naaahhhh...
same thing happens tho...
I've tune a couple new 08 LS3's with aftermarket exhausts, and they still pop...
I've been able to lessen the pop however in a custom tune... but the guys have told me from the start the their shit pops too... and that that's one of the reasons they wanted a custom tune to begin with...
