My Predator Scared Me….

Post by Autin-C6 »

OK, so I have an ’07 corvette and am using the Predator u7194 with the 9r05 revision. Well I restored the original backup tune to reset the Predator and am following the instructions to copy the tune file so Lew could write me a custom header tune, since I do not have a power adaptor for the predator I have it connected to my car and laptop; contrary to the instructions, my predator hung the transfer at 2% so I think to myself, ok, it’s different I’ll start the E40 app. All I got was “ComSetup Failedâ€

:normal: I did get lucky, to make matters worse I found a power adaptor that meets the specs and works on the predator, I could have avoided all of this had I searched for it first.

Anyway, it's too late now. What are the odds that I could restore the original tune and reset the Predator?

I would call support tomorrow during their business hours, ready to plug your predator into your car so they may be able to attempt a force-restore.... and thereby also reset the predator.

My truck once was turned into a brick by the predator (for reasons unrelated to your experience) and they were able to force a restore w/o problem......

That's my plan, I'm going to call them in the morning and see what's going on. The odd part is that it let me install the performance tune from the 9r05 revision; the car started and ran fine after that.

We'll find out tomorrow what they have to say, in the meantime plug into the car only when necessary.

Thanks,

JR

you can do all that while plugged into your car...

the PROBLEM is, you STARTED the car! don't EVER start up the car when reading or writing tunes... the ONLY time you can have the car running with the predator connected is when you're doing data logs.

but never ever while reading or writing tunes...

the Com setup error is because your com ports on the predator and the E40 app are not the same. they have to be on the same com port, and set the baud rate on the e40 app to 115,200.

also, if you're using a USB cable for your predator, you need to make sure the usb drivers for it are installed on your pc, and you have to check the device manager and see what baud rate and com port Windows has assigned to the cable, and change them as necessary.

What probably happened was that you got to some point where the predator would try to read or write the car. Before we do that we have to tell al modules in the car to be quiet, after this process is completed you will have a reduced engine power message in the dic because of loss of communication to various modules, at this point you should just be able to clear DTC codes and she will be all happy again.

Cool..... THAT explains what I saw way back on mine. I did clear DTCs after it was all over, and never got 'em again.

I, however, DID need a force.

Hey Austin-C6, let us know how it all turns out.

Hmm, well at least it sounds like I didn't totally screw up my system, I am sure I will not be doing this again though. I'm on hold with you guys now so I'm sure you'll get me back up to normal soon.

Thanks,

Well after a little while on the phone with Phil at Diablosport all is well with the world again. I did not damage to my ecm (got lucky, won’t do that again) or original tune. I was able to reinstall the original factory tune with no problems and even installed the 91 Octane tune from rev 9r05. Now I posted a copy of it so Lew could write me a custom tune.

What a relief, I’m glad this happened on a Sunday evening where I only had to wait until morning to call; had I had to wait all weekend I would have gone nuts. I should have known better, NEVER start the car unless it tells you, it’s written in several places…. Oh well, it works now with the only damage of a few extra gray hairs on my head.

Thanks everyone,

JR
