Saving Data

Post by mauitom »

Hi,

New U7193 owner. I can't seem to get DataViewer 3.0 to save live data from my unit. I have the GM03-04 Predator Interface (PI) program and it is able to download the data from my unit just fine. I am using the same laptop and cables on the same port settings as PI. What am I missing here? I would like to start logging data.

Thank you, Thomas C.

p.s. FWIW. First impressions of this product. The manual that comes with this product, while at first glance seems professional, does not reflect a $400 value. It has many spelling errors, table of contents is wrong, the web site addresess listed are all broken links and is woefully lacking in the detail that this kind of high tech product should include - it sucks. The manual does not even mention that the unit can be powered up by an 12 volt adapter. Reading through many posts and stickies on a forum is no substitute for good, complete and accurate documentation.

On a more positive note, the Diablo tune I just downloaded "feels" good on my first highway run and it is really nice to be able to see and clear the error codes in the PCM without a trip to GM dealer. :-) The units interface is very straightforwad and well done as is the spiffy case.

It doesn't appear that your specific model Predator can save/download logs. That Predator PC Interface is for uploading/downloading tunes to and from your Predator, not logging.

It looks like you'll need to have someone ride-along with you and write down numbers....

Dang it, I thought I did my research on this, guess not very well. Poop. Guess I'll have to return it and get HPTuners. Thank you for your reply.

Well, I'm just going by the info that's available on your specific product's page and download page. Since the user guide for the PC Interface for your Predator says it's for downloading/uploading tunes to/from your Predator, and since I don't see the Data Viewer app available as a download for your model Predator, that is my assumption... but you know what they say about assuming!!

Wait for Mike or Johan to chime in to this thread, they will confirm or deny this for you. Don't do anything hasty!! ;)

Yes, this tool does not support logging, but you can view live data.
As for the manual, we are currently in the process of redoing all of them.

Thank you for your reply.

Man, that really degrades the value of this tool for me. Bummer.

Having a computer record live data is the only way you can accurately hope to fine tune a tune on the vehicle. Having someone write it down on the front seat is, well, silly.

I don't suppose you could put me in touch with someone at Diablo who could provide me with this units documentation to write my own serial reading program?

Yeah, I bought the U7198, and i'm very disappointed it does not come with data logging either.
Now i'm going to have to buy AutoTap (another $200) just to find out what's really going on. They should not sell the Predators without data logging for as much as the ones with it, or don't sell any without that feature.

They should also sell or have a free download of the Chipmaster Revolution software so that you could only read the tune file, but not upload it to the Predator so you can see what changes are being made instead of percentages.

I just downloaded EFILIVE demo version, and then went here: http://www.holdencrazy.com/EFILive/stockTunes.php downloaded 1999 Silverado
to find out the stock settings for my truck. Very good program to learn about tuning!
Looks to be the same format as CMR.
