COT protection?

Post by rnoswal »

How about this portion of the tuning then, fuel is "added" to cool down the catalytic converters. Is there an explanation as to how much is added and what happens if this is turned off with the cats still in the system?

I don't see any fuel fitting that goes directly into the cat, so I am guessing it is added at the injectors to richen up the mixture. I have a feeling that it is a partial reason as to my dark exhaust tips, but no code tells me that they are running too hot.

Just another part of the equation I am trying to understand. Since I live in Louisiana, there are no emission tests, so I may just knock out the insides of the cat and not worry about any meltdown, IF that is the consequence of disabling the COT.

Thanks

u can change the settings higher in the predator. but the engine richens up to cool off the converters. thats y u see a richer afr when ur at the track and at the end of a run cause the converters are warm and the pcm throws extra fuel to cool em down. im not sure whats a safe temp though but my truck just running around town is in the 1200 range.

yeah, if you still have CAT's on the vehicle, do not change any of the COT settings, or you'll burn up your CAT's...

you can only disable the COT if you remove them (or gut 'em so it's just a shell anyway)...
