Hard shifting with tune

Post by ffej0127 »

I have a 2006 Monte SS and the U9171. now when the tune is in my car with LTFT dialed in or without being dialed in, and any version being installed i will get hard shifts at regular throttle. if i go very light on the throttle its not to bad and if i go heavy its not bad either only at regukar throttle its bad.

If i turn off ignition it goes away for a little while and comes back. When it shifts hard and i leave it the engine light will come on after some time.

When i restore stock tune it stops. If i install the modify stock tune it does not happen either only when any of the diablo tunes are in there does this happen.

Any ideas why this would happen being we do not have any tcm support on this model.

This tuner is basicly useless to me because i cant drive it like that as i will probally kill my trans.

I cant try the dealer because its not the stock tune in the car. i did bring it there after i restored the stock tune, but they found no codes. only i can see the code when i check it with the tuner because the tune makes it blow this code. P0700.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks

really??!!!

I have an 06 Monte SS, and the shifts didn't change... there is no TCM support for our cars - so nothing at all can be modified in our tranny settings...

that code is for Transmission Control System Malfunction... which, as you and I mentioned, we don't have tranny support at all, so nothing gets accessed or modified in the TCM...

so, it sounds like you have other tranny issues present already, and the tune is just magnifying it...

use the predator to clear the code, and see if it comes back...

as far as the predator tune killiing your tranny.. impossible... doesn't change anything having to do with the tranny... I've had mine tuned/custom tuned for about 3 years now, with 67,xxx miles on my car/original tranny, and never had a problem...

BUT, these tranny's are known for having issues... there are a bunch of posts on the impala and ls4 forums about people needing new trannies after only 20/30 thousand miles...

so, put the stock tune back in, clear the code, then drive for a couple days... then re-scan for trouble codes and see if it's back...

again, my bet is you already have tranny problems, before adding the tune...

there are several TSB's out by GM regarding our tranny issues..

Go to this site,
enter your VIN# in the left box. Then select (Get Cal ID),
Then in the Controller window select, (TCM Transmission Control Module) and then next.
Now select (Complete History)
There should be 6 P/N`s for calibration updates done, if not off to the dealer for the TCM updates.
The one you are missing is for: New calibration to improve downshift characteristics and TCC busyness.
Also only install the tunes for no DOD after the dealer flash. get your fueling dialed in and then get ahold of Lew (06MonteSS) for his Diablew tune with DOD .

Thats the problem ive been having. i will only show the code after i install the tune and drive for a couple of hundred miles and continue to drive after it shifts hard. if it starts shifting hard and i am close to turning the car off it will stop and no code will come on untill it happens again. so in other words i have to drive for a while after the problem starts to make the light come on otherwise it will not come on at all.

i have had the stock tune in for approx 6 months now and 5 or 6 thousand miles and no issues or codes.

so im just fed up with it. i have no warranty and the dealer cannot find any problems with it. i just cant understand why puting in the tune will cause this or like you said the problem is present and the tune magifies it. but up until now the stock settings work fine and no issues, so im lost.

that's not what has been updated in your car... but those are updates that are AVAILABLE for your car...

you can use the predator to scan/read some of the Calibration ID's from the modules in your car... do that option and write 'em down, and compare 'em to that list on the TIS site...

but again, there's no TCM support for our cars, so it wouldn't show you any tranny calibration ID's anyway...

what revision is on your predator??? when it boots up to the main menu, there's a number at the top of the screen... that's the revision number... what is it?

also, I think I'll have you send me a copy of the tunes outta your car and I'll compare them to mine...

do you have any instant messenger??? makes things a lot easier/faster... I have AIM, yahoo, and msn messengers, so I can do any of those 3...

let me know if you have any instant messenger and what your screenname is...

Yes, it is all the info for your car!!! as long as the dealer entered it, you can call them and ask if it is in the records.
I have encountered the same situation as you, actually worse and now that my garage has melted (IGLOO) I am braving the tunes again. Only the 91 no DOD because there is no gas above 91 anywhere (Race gas excluded). EVERYTHING above is attained only with Eathonol added which is CRAP!!
Once I am happy with how it is running and driving, I will be getting ahold of LEW for his Majic Tune.
I know of four other LS4`s that have the same symptoms on inital tune.

Thanks Lew, I said it wrong. Just got back from a 1400km run.
