No, the U7165 cant talk to the FICM.

What verision did you start with or was the 8r10 in the Predator when you brought it? I have verision 7r80 and I'm nervous to update to any of the newer programs. Reading other postings it sounds like I may run into problems going to another verision. Do you have any mods or running stock?
jtc1983,
May I ask what verision are you running and what mods other then the Cat/muffler delete?

Thats a FICM tool version, it wont work on a U7165. Unless you have a U7160.
I promise im not trying to be a smart a** but how does he have 7r80 on his U7165 (according to his sig) if it wont work. Just curious. If he accidently put the wrong model number in I retract my question.

For those interested in fuel economy, I recently rolled back to 8r10. I got 12 MPG towing a utility trailer with about 9500# of roofing shingles on it for 200mi. Unloaded (still with the trailer) I got about 17-18. I am going to try the 8r14 also just to see if it is any different. I will say this is an improvement compared to VXCF9 and 9r11 that i had. I never got more than 16 unloaded.

No tool will downgrade to a 7r version especially if it has a updated bootloader. Unless its the same version you purchased the tool with. Thats why 8r10 is still on the downloads section for the U7165. The 8r10 crom updated the bootloader on the tool in order for you to use the newer crom files. Also depending on your FICM calibration the FICM version 7r versions may not work because the truck has a newer calibration in it.

Cole,
My truck has never been to a dealer and my tool is a U7165 with 7r80 on it. What do you mean updated bootloader? Is that the cable ports so that you can plug into your PC., if so the tool has that also. My concern, question, or info I was trying to get was how long have people been running their tool on their trucks and with what version. Just want to know if its safe or am I going to run into problems.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to get anyones opinion....(there seems to plenty of those floating around). I just got one of my customers tools back (u7165) and it still has the 7r84 rev. I was kind of shocked I havent seen one of these in a while. I'm going to put it in a 2004 truck this week....or try to anyway. I was going to try and keep from upgrading this one if possible, I want to see what his mileage does. How do think this rev. compares to the 8r10? Sometimes I wish I could magically swap an NVK4 pcm out of a 7.3 into these 6.0's, man do I miss those things. You could put a crappy chip or tune in and it was instant mileage and power.......not to get off topic.. Let me know what you think. Most all my customers nowadays just want economy/mileage and its aggrevating when you do the same exact thing to 4 or 5 identical trucks and they all run different.
