U7198 - *File Check Sum Error*

Post by MI99XPL »

I need some help. I received back my updated Predator with the 2.13 software version and ran right out to my truck to upload the tune. I picked the 87 oct tune and it began loading. At 91% complete I received an error message of *File Check Sum Error* and it stopped. I thought that was weird. So I went to do it again and it stated *Error, VIN no found*, then it asked me to restore. I tried to restore and at 91% I received a Check Sum error again. So I ran inside and searched the forums and found that all aftermarket equipment should be disconnected. Since I have a radio & amp I pulled both radio fuses (underhood and in cab), I pulled the amp fuse, double checked the parking brake was set. I tried to restore the tune again and it failed at 91%. I then started pulling more fuses, the HVAC, illumination, DRL, anything I could think of that might be drawing power. I also hooked up my charger and let it set overnight. This morning, I tried to restore the tune and it failed at 91% again.

Does anybody have any other ideas I can try? My truck won't start , but I'm going away for weekend and can use my wife's car.

Thanks
Andy

Do you have a remote starter or trailer brake connected?
If so, remove them completely...

I don't have an alarm. But I do have a detachable face radio, so I pulled that off.
I also pulled every fuse under the hood that didn't say ECM, IGN, or Cigar. The only exceptions are those that I didn't know what they were. So in other words, even though I don't have rear HVAC, I pulled that fuse also. There are only a hand full left pulled in. It still failed at 91%.

Any other suggestions?

Do you have a trickle battery charger? Weak battery? Daytime running lights? E-brake on kills them.

My battery charger is about the size of the battery, it has a 30amp charge feature, a 150amp starter feature, and a 2amp trickle feature. I hooked it back up and in trickle it shows almost completely charged. I switched it to the 30amp feature and it shows about 1/2 charged. But it's move to full charge quick.

I replaced my battery 2 years ago. Hasn't let me sit yet.

I did leave my parking brake on over the weekend when I went away. But there is no red lights on in the back of the truck. Would that still drain the battery?

I pulled the fuses on the DRL, headlights (L & R), tail lights, & parking lights. When I turn the key to on, the DRL did not come on.

I did try to use the Predator with the charger connected to the battery in 30amp charge mode. It still failed at 91%.

I'm wining to try anything, please let me know what else I can try.
Thanks

Thanks for your ideas Canuckpredator.

I left the charger on for 3 hours and tried to flash the PCM again, still got the failure at 91%.

Thanks, Andy

Not sure what is going on there.
Something is obviously causing an issue at 91%....tough to say.
may need to get it to a dealer...

Mikel,
Is it usually a electrical probelm that will cause this? If it i'll keep trying different things.
I know when I returned the tune to stock before I sent it in for the 2.13 update I didn't even pull any fuses or set the parking brake. All I did was turn off the auto feature for my head lights (they came on because I was in the garage and there wasn't enought sunlight hitting the senser). It worked great then, just like it's always worked great in the past.

I just asking because I'm starting to wonder if I hit a snag the 1st time and the unit never stored the stock tune even thought it gives me an option to restore. You know, like maybe ver 2.13 is way more sensitive than 1.03. So maybe no matter what I do now, it's just not going to work. Does the Predator store the stock tune the 1st time before it tries to write the Predator tune?

If you have any more ideas please let me know, I'll try them.

thanks
Andy

Ill Born SS,
I'll check. Is that under Options>car tune ? If that's the place, it reads "none".

Thanks

I`m not sure if your screen is the same as mine but:
I think that it did not do the backup and is stuck, I would disconnect the neg battery and put all your fuses back and then after half an hour or so start your truck and let it completly warm up (drive or whatever for a full cycle) then shut it down and then proceed with your tune as the instructions in the manual
